We had the good fortune of connecting with Vicy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vicy, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I was a little girl, music has always been a very prominent part of my life. Whether it was in church or school or even at home, music has been with me and continues to stay with me. I decided to take my music more seriously when I realized how healing it was not just for me, but for those who are listening. I always write through pure emotions when I am constructing a song, so when somebody responds with feedback that says my songs resonate with them, that’s what makes me continue the journey to keep pushing. Music is so healing for the soul and if my songs can make someone’s day in any way, shape or form, I know that I’m doing something worth while.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
It’s been such a beautiful journey to get to the point where I am as an artist and this is only the beginning. As a consumer of music, I realize that after a while everything starts to sound the same. My goal is to create my own lane not only as a singer but a songwriter as well. I want you to be able to feel what I’m saying in the depths of your soul. I want the lyrics to resonate with your spirit.
It’s not an easy task at all when it comes to being an independent artist. However, it is certainly worth the trials you will face. I love having complete and total control over my being as an artist.
It sounds so cliche but to overcome any challenges or negativity, even from my own thought process, I simply had to just take a strong leap of faith and put myself out there. Nobody is going to hear me if I don’t make any noise. So in June of 2023, I decided to take a big chance on me and released my debut EP “Something to Say” Something to Say is very personal for me. I use to hold my tongue and not speak up, but as I got older I realized it wasn’t healthy. This project was the greatest coming of age story for me. You’ll hear a host of emotions but overall you’ll hear my personality through the entirety of the project.
As of now, you can stream my debut EP Something to Say on all major streaming platforms.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ahhh this one is quite tough because I am a literal homebody lol however whenever my friends are visiting and they want to get great drinks, I always have to take them to BoomerJack’s! They have the best margaritas! And their musical atmosphere is awesome! Some locations have live bands as well! Stirr in Deep Ellum is also an awesome vibe. The food is great and the rooftop gives a great view while you can enjoy some really dope music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As an independent artist, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the continued encouragement of my mom. She always has been able to see something in me that I couldn’t see in myself. She’s been the guiding light from the very beginning and I am forever grateful for her! Through the process, I also have to give a shoutout to my awesome engineer Orlando Williams. He’s played a big role in the clarities that you hear in my music. To my shooter with the artistic ammo, Delilah Lopez, she’s played a very pivotal role in the graphics that you see. From my single cover art to my EP cover, she’s been with me through it all and has grown as an amazing artist! I want to shoutout every soul that was apart of my writing process. If I’ve ever shared music with you before it was released, understand that’s the purest form of music love. Last but most certainly not least, I have to give a shoutout to my Uncle Boo. He passed suddenly in 2021. It was a very cloudy time for me. For it was his passing that allowed me to peacefully be able to write my emotions through songwriting again. May he forever live on through my artistry.
