We had the good fortune of connecting with Varcy Duncombe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Varcy, how do you think about risk?
Taking the risk has always been a key element throughout my life and career it has helped me elevate to the next level even if it looks unconventional. Most times taking that leap of faith makes you look crazy and although it gets uncomfortable it opens the door for new skills, opportunities, growth and most importantly either failure or success. We can’t adapt or experience life fully without it, so take a gamble.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a recording artist/ songwriter. My music has always been a driving force in my life and I’d like to think one do the biggest parts of my purpose. I couldn’t have done any of this without God. I’ve had many challenges and setbacks but I have learned to allow them to shape my character and most of all influence growth. It hasn’t been easy, but God sends pieces of the puzzle in due season.

My music and craft is unique to me because I pay attention to small details when creating. I’m discovering my voice in different genres such as rnb, soul, pop, reggae, neo soul, and I’ve even touched on funk. There are so many different elements of my self and outside influence that goes into my music and that makes it incredibly fun. I take my life’s experiences or those of others and  make it a song. When it comes to creating for me it starts off visually and audibly and I build from there. It’s imperative that I get the vision from my mind out into the world, I feel so grateful when I’m able to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im actually quite new to Dallas and haven’t been to many places outside of music but I would say for me it’s been the farm life or outdoor concerts have caught my attention. Ive visited a Bahamian farm owned by Carlisle Mott where he does beef production and Ive fallen in love with the place ever since. I’ve also visited the State fair, it’s literally a country dream lol I could see myself getting lost in there. Ive been to this restaurant called LORO and I mean it was so gorgeous, the Asian and Texas fusion is beyond spectacular with amazing customer service, with really healthy food! Lastly, it would be at the Forth Worth Stockyard lots of history to explore!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hey Shoutout! Shoutout to God for allowing things to happen, he’s been there for it all, and for that, Im thankful. I want to thank those that have supported me on my journey thus far. Those who have assisted either in The Bahamas or around the world on projects and have even rendered kind gestures along the way, I appreciate you. To the music communities that have allowed me into spaces short/long term to showcase my talents, thank you. A major shoutout to my two producers, Jordache Grant & Jah Born for mentoring, assisting and guiding me each step of the way, also my sound engineer, OZ down at Element Sound, Skin Wade and the many influential people I have met while there. To the Dallas Music Community it has been a pleasure! I have been enjoying my new music family so far, big up ya self!
