We had the good fortune of connecting with Valen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Valen, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Recently, I’ve been on a new journey to embrace work-life balance with a newfound sense of purpose. I’m letting go of the days of blurring the lines between work and personal life, believing that constant hustle leads to the best results. Instead, I’ve come to realize that this approach only fueled my anxiety and left me wanting more.

As an artist, I’ve learned to honor the importance of downtime, allowing my spirit to recharge, indulge in play, and cherish moments with loved ones. This intentional break from the grind not only takes care of my overall well-being but also serves as fertile ground for creativity to flourish. After all, it’s the experiences of living that inspire my art and fuel my imagination.

My ultimate goal? To foster connections and amplify voices through the transformative power of music. With every lyric penned, I strive to evoke emotions, spark empathy, and create a sense of belonging. Because in the end, it’s not just about making music; it’s about making people feel understood and seen in a world that often feels disconnected.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What distinguishes me is that my music has a positive presence. It radiates hope, exudes a nurturing energy, and instills in others an unshakable belief in their capabilities. Like my music, my aura is a beacon of inspiration, empowering those around me to conquer any challenge they dare to tackle. I believe that my art is me. I’ve always been, me. So creating the songs in my discography hasn’t been difficult as I simply pour myself into the production.
I want the world to know that I deeply care. I care about people, world issues, culture, and everything in between. I do music because I want to be a part of a movement that positively impacts the world through love and understanding.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you ask anyone, they know I’m notorious for being an itinerary freak so this is perfect for me to answer. If it was a week long trip, (in no order), I’d take my best friend to the Houston Museum District, eat pizza and enjoy live music at The Gypsy Poet, Buffalo Bayou to have a picnic and play volleyball at Eleanor Tinsley Park, James Turrell Skyspace at sunset, dance to live DJ sets at The Flat, Reeves Art + Design to admire artwork, Centennial Garden and Hermann Park, Rice Village/Montrose/Heights shopping days, concerts at White Oak Music Hall/House of Blues/713 Music Hall… the list goes ON. Houston is so beautiful and eclectic that there always something exciting to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to my incredible family for being the backbone of my journey, always feeding my spark and potential. From those early days of belting out tunes at family gatherings to the endless support at school performances, my parents and sisters have been unwavering in their belief in my musical prowess.

Their encouragement didn’t stop there; my dad’s investment in music production gear, my mom’s rides to singing competitions, my sisters’ consistency in making me practice performances, etc. amplified my passion and fueled my ambition. Their support isn’t just a footnote in my story; it’s the very foundation upon which I stand empowered.

In a world where belief can be scarce, I’m blessed to have a family that sees my light and nurtures it with unwavering devotion. Here’s to the ones who inspire me to reach new heights every day.
