We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Burton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Most people, including myself (until recently), tend to think about work life balance as a hard break; the second work ends, life or enjoyment begins. Unfortunately, this is the case when someone does not enjoy their work, or they wish to completely separate their work from the rest of their life. When friends or family ask them about work, a lot of the connotation is negative and the last thing people want to do is relive the “boring” or “stressful” part of their day. To suggest a balance implies there is an inherent difference between the two ideas.
I think the best solution is to think of work as part of your life. This means that your life doesn’t start the moment you clock out. The balance comes when you learn to enjoy brining something to the world through your work. Work brings successes and failures. Work leads us to build important relationships. Work is meaningful and challenging. Work serves a purpose and lets us highlight our best skills. When you are working, you are still living life, and continuing to be yourself.
Ultimately, your work needs to be something you enjoy. I am working more hours per week now than I ever did before, but my life is incredibly more balanced than before. The work I am doing is enjoyable to me. My work makes me want to put in more hours on the weekend. My work motivates me to be the best version of myself that I can be. My work is meaningful, and challenging. Before, I would count down the hours until I was able to go home, and then spend those “free” hours not looking forward to the next morning. Balance doesn’t look like cutting back on those work hours so my waiting on the clock is shorter, and dreading the next day is longer. Balance looks like loving what you do to the point of still deeming it worthy of calling it life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Originally, I wanted to add an additional income source for my wife and I. I started reselling used sports jerseys on eBay. I did that for a few months, but quickly fell out of love with the idea. I remember seeing a Gary Vee video about buying and selling used salt shakers online. The concept was basically that you can buy and sell anything, just get out there and do it. I thought to myself “what is my salt shaker”?
I have been playing golf for just over a year now, and back in August I was playing as often as I could. I went on Facebook Marketplace to work on upgrading some of the clubs in my bag, and was very surprised at some of the great deals I could find. I had money left over in my account from selling sports jerseys, so I spent the next few weeks accumulating over 30 golf clubs. I tried most of them out, and added a few new ones to my bag. I already had an eBay account, so I started posting the left over clubs.
Fast forward to today, my brother Collin and I have a registered business in Texas, and over 400 used golf clubs in inventory. We are learning the ropes quickly, and have a dedicated business bank account, a fully operational website, and are expanding to more areas including; golf club rentals, golf swing lessons, and weekly content productions.
The ultimate goal for us is to continue to build our brand.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my initial success to the wonderful people around me. Thankfully, I have been incredibly supported and loved throughout this process. I haven’t had to endure people making fun of me, or telling me that I am wasting my time on something that probably won’t work out. The people around me have really invested their time, energy, and support into myself and this business idea. Specifically, I would like to thank my wife, Angelle. She has given amazing feedback, believed in my ability, and worked alongside me this entire time. I would like to thank the rest of my family as well. They have been there to celebrate with me through new accomplishments, and have put in hard work to help me get to this point. Lastly, I would also like to thank my group of friends. A small and connected group of friends is very important to have. Their interest, support, and friendship is all I could ask for. Make sure and surround yourself with the best people you can find.
