We had the good fortune of connecting with Trey Abner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trey, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
A lot of people who own, manage, and book talent for these venues in DFW don’t know what they’re doing. Mainly because they’re tapped out and unaware of what’s going on in Black, music, and overall youth culture. Folks is old and politicking. They’d call it doing business. But whatever it is there actually doing is making experiences less enjoyable for paying customers.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Professionally I currently work a day job at AT&T Stadium in the beverage department. That’s what I do for a living but it’s also how I support my passion. I just simply live for music culture. That’s all I’m actually passionate about. Making songs, shooting videos, going to shows/parties, throwing my own events, media, etc. I love the whole game. I started out making songs in my closet with very little equipment. But with support from some of my best homies I gradually step my craft up in every aspect. I don’t really make money off music I create, but I don’t really care as long as I’m making money someway within my passion. I found a way to turn music into a hustle regardless. And that hustle makes my music even better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m really such a south side nigga for this lol. All u gotta do is stay on Randol Mill and North Collins in Arlington, TX. Texas Live, hotels, the ball parks, the stadium, Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, dine in theaters, sports bars, and good food all right there. Better buy a house there too while you at it cus by 2025 property values will be out of here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partners (Niche, Lanna, and Franklin) and all of the artists, volunteers and press who’ve contributed to this movement. Everybody plays a vitally crucial role. The communication between everybody is great, largely due to Niche’s coordination abilities, but also because everyone who participates wants to contribute. If that wasn’t the case I don’t see us being in the position we’re in now with the potential opportunities we currently have.
