We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevoy Pointer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trevoy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ownership. It’s very important to me to own something impactful to me, my family and valuable to others. The traditional way of thinking and living are gone. I strongly believe If a person doesn’t understand the importance of ownership, it’s incredibly difficult to have a really good quality of life. Starting a business(s) should be a normal thing to everyone these days.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Outside of the other things I am involved in, I own a smart watch brand called MyBalance Watches. We are the first black-owned smart watch brand. What separates us from other businesses is that we are pushing the message “self-empowerment”. I love Apple (also I love Steve Jobs) and Samsung, these guys are mega companies and they have the brand loyalty. There are other players in the market as well. I think MyBalance Watches’ focus on focus on your path, your vision and your empire is how we separate ourselves. Our slogan is “it’s time to get to know you”. We are still at the infant stage at this point. Growing ad building something very special. There is nothing easy about anything if you want to do it a high level. I want people to understand my brand is simply guidance to a better quality of life. Every company or brand that I stand behind will bring value to the everyday person. I’ve made the commitment to myself forever. As far as my story, I grew up playing basketball for the first 20 years of my life. I never had any business, entrepreneurial or financial literacy. So there was a huge transition going from athlete to entrepreneur. It has been a crazy ride but I appreciate every second. I discuss more in my book “Walk Through The Fire” too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Dallas… My favorite spot to eat: Tampopo – best sushi in Dallas. This is a kind of hole-in-the-wall sushi joint off of Greenville. We would grab some sushi there. Places to go: Klyde Warren Park – it’s an awesome park to go to during the weekends. There’s an open field in the middle of the city, on top of a highway and it’s always a beautiful scene. Fun places to go: – The Star in Frisco is a pretty cool place to visit. It’s where the Cowboys HQ and practice facility is located. It’s a nice scenery and places to eat in the area. – I’ll add the immediately west Dallas area called “Trinity Groves” is a awesome place to visit as well. Plenty of restaurants to eat. There’s also this area where you can get the best view of the Dallas Skyline as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fiancé is someone I want to give a huge shoutout to. Her and I have grown together over the past 7 years. It’s has been an interesting ride and we’ve come to be very good friends, life partners, parents and we support each other. I think a life hack is having someone that you are compatible with to take on this world. Of course my son, he is the most amazing person in the world. I do everything I do for him to have a good quality of life. My parents are awesome, they are the ones who put me here and I am forever grateful for them. I just want to make sure they retire and do whatever they want to do for the rest of their lives.
