We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracy Moss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tracy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
IPD was founded to bridge the gap and promote an education culture by providing mentoring, life skills training, and leadership development opportunities to equip and motivate our parents and youth to succeed.

I believed that it was critical to establish a nonprofit organization like IProjectDestiny because going to college is not just an aspiration for many single parents; it is a game changer for them and their families. This is because education, both traditional and nontraditional, is not only a potential pathway to economic mobility but also a key to breaking the cycle of generational poverty.

As a single mother, I know firsthand what it’s like to try to balance school, work, and household responsibilities. It was extremely difficult. Many single parents have some college education but were unable to complete their degree because they could not afford to work and go to school. Despite the difficulties, I was able to complete my education, and I want to help others do the same.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Tracy Moss has honorably served her country in the United States Army. She is a social worker and mental health advocate. Tracy is a GOD-chaser and knows that with GOD all things are possible. She is an author, certified life coach for young women and girls. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Central Baptist University and Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California.

My first book’s publication was a proud moment for me. The Beauty of Battle Scars: A Reminder of God’s Grace is a memoir in which I share my struggles with depression, heartbreak, regret, shame, and fear. I describe in this book how it kept me in a broken place for many years. This book, on the other hand, shows how to use past adversity as a steppingstone to future success; it offers practical ways to eliminate self-limiting beliefs; and it provides tools to help you build and grow your relationship with God.

I got where I am today through perseverance, courage, discipline, and a lot of prayer. Was the process simple? No, but it was well worth it. My past, and everyone who played a role in it, good or bad, shaped who I am today, and for that I am grateful. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along the way is that “when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time,” in the words of the legendary Maya Angelou.

I am my brand, and I am proud to represent it because I take pride in who I am and the servanthood that I represent. It is my passion to advocate for the underprivileged and those who are often overlooked. I inspire everyone that I meet or work with to create the change they want to see. I have been called to speak into the lives of those who have been counted out by society, and so I say to you, this is not your end. “I Project Destiny for your life.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in the city-wow! that’s a hard one.

For brunch, me and the ladies would have to reserve a table at Kitchen + Cocktails in Dallas because this place is hard to get into, but the wait is worth it!

For dinner, I recommend Pangea Restaurant & Bar—the food is delicious (the jerk-spiced lamb), and the atmosphere is a vibe.

After a good Sunday service, we would have to fall up in Brunchaholics or the Soiree Coffee Bar.

For dessert we would try Fluellen Cupcakes and Val’s Cheesecakes

Because we are all competitive, we would visit the Sandbox VR and go zip lining at Trinity Forest.

We would definitely check out the Southern Classic—so much black excellence in one place, that is a must!

If I know my girls, they’ll want to find a good spa, so we’d go to The Woodhouse Day Spa or The Now Massage Boutique.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my daughter, Destinee. You are my reason. I want to always make you proud. I would also, like to send a shoutout to my Board Members: Regeanie Corona, Damon Bullock, PhD. and Kerry Moss Jr. who contribute countless ways to IPD’s mission. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to all of our volunteers and supporters. Your generosity has an impact on the lives of many people. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
