We had the good fortune of connecting with Toby Lynch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Toby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For the past 8 years, I have been a varsity football and track coach and in 2020, just like all of the other coaches and athletes in the world, I lost my track season. I was hurting inside and I knew my guys were pretty shook up about not being able to finish what we started. That’s where it all began for me. I knew there were thousands of other coaches and athletes feeling the same. So, ATH Posters, a family-run business was born. We began designing and shipping custom athlete posters to NCAA and NAIA athletic programs all over the country to honor the seniors in each sport who lost their season due to the pandemic.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sure thing. What sets us apart? God has blessed us tremendously. Sure, we have a great product, partners, and opportunities but to have His hand of blessing on our business is what sets us apart.
What am I most proud of or excited about? We just recently became officially licensed with the NCAA and will bring our first line of posters and canvases to the market for collegiate athletes, so if you are an avid sports fanatic you wont want to miss our ATH Marketplace when the new website launches in the fall. We also have some big upcoming product collaborations with high profile professional athletes that we are excited to bring to the market, so there is a good chance you can find the perfect poster or canvas of your favorite collegiate and pro athletes. Lastly, our business was founded on “custom orders” and we partner with over 250 NCAA and NAIA athletic programs across the country each year to fulfill custom orders for senior night and end of year banquets. Just this year, we have added custom housewarming gifts and have started to partner with realtors across the country to provide custom gifts for their clients at closing. Custom orders have been the lifeblood of our business and we believe every athlete or sports enthusiast in the country should have an ATH poster or canvas on the wall. We take great pride in all of the relationships we have developed along the way and we look forward to working on future projects for you!
How did I get where I am today business-wise and was it easy? I graduated with a BBA in Marketing from Hardin Simmons in 2012, so there is a long list of professors and mentors who have helped give me guidance and direction when it comes to business and marketing. It has not been easy, but as the saying goes, nothing worthwhile in life comes easy. I embrace that challenge every day and try to learn from my shortcomings and mistakes. The opportunity to wake up and learn a new lesson each week excites me.
What are the lessons I have learned along the way? Shoot, there is a long list. Pray. Work hard. Be diligent. Be kind, giving, and gracious. You’re a business owner and a coach, but never be too busy for your family. Priority list has to be God, Family, then Food, right? (Food being business). I have realized that when I get those out of order, things start to go sideways. I think that is a good lesson for any business owner or professional.
What do I want the world to know about my brand and story? In the fall, when our new website launches we will become the biggest online marketplace for officially licensed collegiate athlete fan art in the world. Also, if you are and athlete, know an athlete, or have a little athlete at home please be sure to take advantage of our custom orders. Every athlete in the country should have an ATH poster or canvas! So, give the perfect gift and remember the name ATH Posters.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Great question. I’m a big food guy and also a big coffee guy. I would have to say Hopdoddy Burger Bar is a must have! Best coffee in town is a place called Well Grounded Coffee, I spend a lot of time there. Seriously, best coffee and an awesome place to sit down and get some work in.
If the season is right, you gotta catch a Dallas Stars or Dallas Mavericks game in the same week. Nothing quite like it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Jaryn deserves all the credit, really. I have always been very business minded and she never shuts me down. I am especially thankful for her support in this business endeavor, because her support has enabled me to be able to go full-time with ATH Posters and pour my passions for sports and Athletes into it. My younger sister Chasya, also deserves a huge shoutout. She is tremendously talented in design and she helps make the ATH brand what it is. Without these two ladies, we would not have a business. Our family is blessed and I am thankful!
