We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Renner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thomas, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work to live or live to work? Two years ago, I didn’t have the capacity to answer this question. I was working/teaching 6 sometimes 7 days a week and it wasn’t until I suddenly lost my job that I realized I was working so much I forgot what I was living for. That’s why I became a Life Coach. To help people find balance in realizing their relationship with themselves is as important as their work.

Life Coaching is a lot about finding balance in many areas of your life. And the further I get into entrepreneurship, finding that balance speaks even louder. With my previous career, I lost myself.  Now with my workaholic awareness, I choose when and how much work I want to do. When you do what you’re passionate about and express balance, it feels like purpose instead of work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my 10+ years in teaching fitness, many members have shared their experience of my teaching style as powerful, authentic, and full of wisdom; therefore, becoming a Life Coach isn’t by coincidence.

The power of life coaching is recognizing, honoring, and shifting from within inservice of the evolution of your life. The only constant in life is change and you have the power to choose who are in the change. Easy? No. But if it were easy everyone would do it. In building my Life Coaching business there are three key lessons I’ve learned:

1. It’s never personal. – Losing a sale, a personal experience, or negative feedback, it doesn’t have to mean anything about you.
2. Fail Faster. – The more you fail the more you succeed. You’ll never achieve what you desire if you wait to be perfect at it…because you’ll still be waiting.
3. Do the work. – You must do the inner work on yourself to move out of your own way to let yourself flow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I imagine a week of vacation here are the top 5 stops we’d make on our journey:

1. Dallas Arboretum – beautiful scenery alongside White Rock lake with a gorgeous view of Downtown from afar.
2. Reunion Tower – A staple of the famous Dallas skyline, this will be perfect to mark off your bucket list.
3. Dallas Museum of Art – Their collections are phenomenal whether they’re permanent or traveling.
4. State Fair of Texas – In September/October it’s a spectacle to be seen from people, auto show, and fried food!
5. Ballpark in Arlington – They built a new stadium that is state of the art and beautiful on the inside to keep the Rangers cool in the Texas heat.

In that week here are top restaurants not to miss that offer a variety of taste and ambiance:

1. Park House in Highland Park Village
2. Sachet
3. Billy Can Can
4. Trinity Groves – a series of restaurants that run the gamut of tastes
5. Monica’s Mex-Tex

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over 7 years I helped build a community of individuals with Flywheel. Nearly two year later, I still feel that entire community rallying behind me pursuing of my passion to help people on a global level. My parents have seen me thrive and they will always have my back in my career decisions to be the change in the world.
