We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Rollins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I first started my photography business, I had just stopped teaching to stay home with my daughter. My husband is also a teacher and we needed some way to supplement at least a portion of my lost income. Photography has always been a passion of mine since high school but making it an actual business was something new. My main goal in starting my business was to have a more flexible schedule in which I could stay home with my daughter and not miss out on the fleeting moments while also having something for me that I thoroughly enjoy!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography is such a beautiful way of appreciating what’s already in front of me that others might miss. I am super excited about the clients I will meet over the course of time! I want others to feel loved, valued, and accepted regardless of their circumstance and I feel like what I do makes it easy to love on those around me. I love meeting new people and getting to hear and tell their stories!

The road I’ve taken has definitely not been easy! There’s been a lot of growth that I have had to make both personally and professionally. I’ve had to learn some things that are outside of my comfort zone, like how to actually run a successful business, spreadsheets, etc. I’ve also had to learn how to have a backbone which is not in my nature considering I’m a hard enneagram 9 through and through. I’ve grown through the challenges but I really do feel like it has helped me be where I am today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, if a friend was coming to visit, we would spend a majority of our time outside. I love being outdoors! We would head over to Cedar Hill State Park to hike and hammock. After that we would go for a lowkey dinner at Matt’s Tex Mex in Garland or Bankhead Brewing Co in Rowlett. The next afternoon we would head over to Hams Orchard to enjoy some peach ice cream and BBQ!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh my goodness, there are so many people! I would love to give a shoutout to my husband who has supported me from the beginning and been a constant encouragement to me throughout this process. I would also like to recognize my friend, Jennifer Kirk, who helped me understand of the business side of things when I first decided to officially launch as a real business. She has been an incredible cheerleader and avenue of support while also running her own photography business! And last but certainly not least, my amazing followers and people that have booked sessions with me. Without them, I truly would not be where I am today and for that I am forever grateful.
