We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Burchette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a child, I was always the kid that wanted to listen to music, dance, color, or even take photos. It resulted in me joining the cosmetology program at my high school and finding a career at the age of 18. However, my passion for photography kept creeping in as I had been dabbling since I was a freshman. After almost a year in the salon with the full support of my family, I left my career as a stylist to become a Photographer at 19. Since that day, I have spent countless hours teaching myself how to edit, pose my clients, and just make them feel comfortable. I have not looked back and I do not plan to. Behind the camera is definitely where I feel I belong.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been very lucky to have people around me that will tag along and model when I have an idea for a photoshoot. This is something that has aided in growing my clientele immensely and allowed me to really bring out my creative side. Finding my style in photography was probably the hardest thing I’ve had to do. I love the outdoors, so I decided against being a studio photographer. However, there’s so much more that goes into it. The props, the location, the time of day; it all matters and for me it has to be perfect! This was when I really took my bohemian/western style, and started bringing it to life with my camera. With this style being so popular, I’m constantly challenging myself with ways to put my own spin on it including flowers, antique props, and more!
While I enjoy all aspects of photography and the adventure within, I am most excited to photograph more couples this year! Wether it be fall photos, weddings, or elopements, being able to capture a couples’ love is such an honor.
I came up with the name Wandering Wren because I’ve always had somewhat of a free spirit. I want my brand to represent how important it is to do what you love and still feel that same free spirit while doing it. I also want my clients to remember that I am not just their photographer, I am here to travel and spread joy through as many people as I possibly can. Because of that, I have made amazing friendships from clients and I am forever grateful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Given that I don’t go out very much, I would probably set up a week of mainly outdoor activities. I love nature and would love to kayak the river, or hike some trails! I love good food/entertainment though, so we would most definitely have to finish our days with a popular dinner. Perhaps somewhere like Del Frisco’s or Dallas House of Blues!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I became committed to photography at a very rough time in my life. I had just come home from a tough situation and my self confidence was low. I say this wanting to be transparent for those having trouble believing in themselves. My family and especially my parents were so quick to reassure me that I was on the right path. With every photo gallery I showed them, they just kept encouraging me until I finally saw myself as the photographer that my family saw as well. I really cannot thank every person enough that took a chance with me as a new photographer because it’s gotten me where I am today.
