We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Chamorro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Without taking big risks big things don’t happen.
I believe every decision we make brings a certain degree of risk. Deciding if/where you want to buy your first home; if you change your career path, or even something as small as deciding if we go out to eat. However, because these risks are not always associated with financial burdens we don’t consider them as “risks”. Yet, every decision we make will, in some way, influence our future, and that includes our financial future. I’ve been taking what some people would say “crazy risks” since a young age. For example, at the age of 22, my husband and I sold our car and moved from Nicaragua to Dallas with the hope of my husband completing his MBA; we also had our 2-year-old son with us. At that moment, we did not fully understand the possible risks this decision came with, we also didn’t fully understand the possible risks it came with if we didn’t do it, and that is what people tend to forget. They only see the risk of doing things, but not the risk of not doing them. However, this decision defined the next 8 years of our life, and possibly the rest of our family’s legacy. My husband went on to graduate with his MBA, he was offered employment in Dallas and I was able to complete both my undergraduate degree and Masters’s in Science. That’s not where our risk-taking path ended, but it was definitely where it started. And though looking back it was a no-brainer, it was definitely the biggest risk we took, or should I call it a “leap of faith”?
What should our readers know about your business?
Our people are what sets us apart from others. We do digital marketing in a very unique way because over anything, we like to teach. This isn’t possible without the team that makes up Hite, and this is what I am most proud of and excited about. Now, starting a business is not easy, scaling is not easy, and retaining a culture is certainly not easy. We’ve had to overcome change, a pandemic, complexity, and growth, and, maybe surprisingly to some, growth has been one of the hardest challenges to go through. Why? growth means change, and as humans, we aren’t traditionally fans of change. Therefore, retaining talent, culture, and quality are all part of the journey of growing a business. What I want the world to know about all of us at Hite, is that no matter what, we put people first. That includes our clients, but also our team members, everything we do, we re-investment into our team’s development, growth, and dreams. We are here to be part of the driver for change in organizational cultures.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love family-friendly venues, where our children can have fun, but so do we. If friends were visiting we would take them first for lunch at Hopdoddy burgers, and possibly continue with a trolly stroll and a stop and Klyde Warren park. As foodies, we look for fun places to have lunch or dinner at, and depending on the season, whiskey cake will always be a great stop.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is not just one person that deserves recognition, because I believe one person’s success is thanks to an army of people behind them. However, here are some of those that make up my army. First of all, my husband, Carlos Rivers. He became my family when I was 20 years old, and, apart from my parents, he has been the one constant support throughout the last 11 years. Motivated me to take risks, but most importantly believe in myself. My husband hasn’t only pushed me to accomplish my dreams, but he has also supported me by being a partner at home; he has taken care of my son so I could finish school, go to networking events and even start my business. There is no other way to show what it means to marry the right person but to become who you can be because of them. College brought many mentors too, who motivated me and allowed me to find different opportunities to complete my degree debt-free. Once I became an entrepreneur, my success was no longer just mine and my family’s; it was now also my team’s. Without them, we are not who we are, and success is not possible.
