We had the good fortune of connecting with Taryn Hooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taryn, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
My idea of success is how YOU truly define yours. No not all the money, not the material things, not titles. Just hard freaking work. The hussle, the long days, the brutal nights and weekends. I remember being turned down at interview after interview. Family and friends rolling their eyes if I say one more thing about work. Wanting to have others come from all over to choose me to put hands on them is so my idea of happiness and success. Its that feeling of stopping and thinking dang T, you are where you finally always wanted to be. Where my passion is spilled over into others and I can show them what I know and what I have learned over my 10 years of experience.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been in the Beauty industry for over 20 years, and it has been something that has always came easy for me. When my youngest child finally went info Kindergarden I decided that I wanted to go back to school. Being a nurse was not something that I had wanted to do it was just something that sounded good for the moment and nursing school came at a good time in my life. (I really wanted to be a 3rd grade teacher lol) My first job out of school was for a wellness clinic that specialized in womans health and hormone replacement therapy and upstair she had a med spa. At that time there were only 4 of us working and we were all certified in doing most procedures. With my beauty back ground and people pleasing past I fell in love with aesthetics. The instant change, the smiles that it brought to womans faces was untouched to what I had seen in the nursing world.
My kids got older and priorities changes so I needed to be closer to home. I then started as nurse director for a husband (allergist)
and wife (
dermatologist) in Frisco, Tx. I was able to get more on the job training and attend NLI for aesthetics. As covid evolved I decided that being in a med spa full time would be my goal and career change over the next few years. I finally joined Beautibars in Jan of 2022 and could not be more happy. Leading a team of nurses that actually are ready and happy to come to work has been surprising and the best part of my day.
This year I also started teaching at The National Laser Institute which has made my career that much more rewarding. Teaching medical professionals what I do and why I do it all day is so cool. My career is an art and to have the option to teach it is truely priceless to me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the small homey comfortable areas like downtown McKinney. We would grab coffee at snugs, brunch at Ricks or spoons. of course check out all the shopping and boutiques. Listen to the live music or or join the festivals that are going on. in the evening we could eat dinner at any of the awesome restaurants, taste wine at one of the 3 wineries or we could take a tour of Tapps brewery. They have an adult arcade or a comedy club for entertainments. When you walk down there it is like being in a hallmark movie, the lights, the art, the tradition it exsudes. Familys are ther because it is safe and the value is phenomenal.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a lot of people and family in my life that know how much I love and value them. They push me to try harder and to be a better version of myself. But most of all I want to thank my old self, my old relationships, my past failures. It made me finally realize that I want more for myself, that even with all my mistakes I still deserve to live out my passion.
*Thank you Shadyn & Micah you are my #1 reason to try harder everyday
