We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Pearson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If there is even a slight chance at getting something that makes you happy, risk it. Life is too short and happiness is too rare. All my life I have been what most would call a “risk taker” sometimes they have been on the disastrous side of risks, but I’ve always learned something none the less. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to take more smart, calculated risks. Like quitting my banking job after 9 years of the corporate world to finally chase my dream of being a full time stylist. I took the leap of faith and left the job that made me financially comfortable but miserable otherwise, all to jump head first into 2 part time jobs making half of much and working every day. I took the risk on MYSELF, I knew I could hustle and create the dream life of being my own boss and having creative freedom, and doing something that fulfilled me and made me proud to do. Taking risks requires a lot of blind trust in most cases, nothing is really guaranteed. However you have to trust your instincts. Sometimes you gut will lead you down an unknown path, but you know that something bigger is on the other side. Go for it! You’ll never know what you can accomplish until you do something you’ve never done. Task the risks, you just might find your biggest reward!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a hair color specialist specializing in balayage and lived in blonding in Fort Worth. Balayage is a hair painting technique to create a seamless blend from the natural hair color into something lighter. It leaves a beautiful and lasting blend that is super low maintenance while growing out with intention. It’s a look that last for months! I love it because it allows us as busy women, moms, and spouses to feel beautiful for longer periods of time, without having to feel like we need to be in the salon frequently to maintain a look. This is something I have educated myself on extensively to be able to provide the best service and experience out there. I pride myself with creating an environment that women can come in and be themselves all while feeling pampered and beautiful when they leave!! I love to empower women and have great conversation about meaningful things in life, it really joins us together in a beautiful way that we all need a little bit more of. It’s not just about the hair for me, it’s about the people that this industry has brought into my life. From co-workers, bosses, right down to the clients that land in my chair. I’d like to think I’ve had a little hand in changing some lives while they were doing the same for me. It’s still unreal to me that this is ACTUALLY my job! Even being in the industry for 5 years now it never gets old!! When I took a life changing leap of faith to quit my corporate career and join the beauty industry, I was chasing that feeling I get everyday now. I needed to be somewhere where I could express my creativity, truly be myself, love on others, and have complete control and freedom over my schedule. I knew getting to where I envisioned myself wouldn’t be easy, but I knew the steps I had to take to get there and I took the risk on myself. I quit my bank job after 8 years and took 2 part time jobs to work 7 days a week and build my clientele in a town where I knew no one. I had to keep reminding myself that the small sacrifices would pay off in the end, and to just keep hustling… and now fast forward 5 years later and I am working in my dream salon which happens to be Fort Worth’s largest and 1st fully sustainable salon in Texas, Novak Hair Studios, doing my dream hair on my dream clients, working my dream schedule. Was it easy? Absolutely not, nothing worth having ever comes easy. I fell on my face a few times, but I’ve learned to get right back up and keep on truckin’. Taking that risk on myself has definitely brought more reward than I knew I could receive.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ohhh Fort Worth has some GEMS!!! This would absolutely have to be a long week just to hit up all the great restaurants alone!!But we would have to definitely start with coffee. Summer Moon on South Main is one of my new favorites! It is fireroasted coffee, like whhhhat. They have the cutest little upstairs lounge area and some of the most amazing, super pretty doughnuts! I’ve had the pistachio and Chai Latte one. After breakfast we would have to make our way over to Grow plant shop. The CUTEST shop and sweetest couple that started out in a little Airstream on Magnolia st. and have now opened a beautiful store front with some really neat plants. They will even pot them in one of the many precious ones they have there for you!! Next would have to be lunch on a good patio somewhere. Fort Worth is full of them but one of my favorites is HG Sply. It’s located right on the Trinity River. It’s one of the biggest patios in the city and has some of the best food! Just take my word for it! Also, their cucumber smash might be my favorite drink on the planet. Pair it with a friend and a patio, PERFECTION!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I couldn’t have done it with my husband Clint! He is my best friend and teammate no doubt. My sacrifices were not just my sacrifices. We didn’t hardly see each other for almost 2 years, he packed my dinner every night and picked up where I couldn’t. He has always my biggest cheerleader and kept continuous faith in me when I took the risk on myself! I am forever grateful for him. Now we get to live the life we love and created together!❤️
