We had the good fortune of connecting with TaNiya Jessie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi TaNiya, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Embracing bravery has been of the most important decisions I’ve ever had to make in life in general. I tend to play it safe because I knew I could get by but I’ve missed many opportunities due to fear. Afraid of rejection and failure. I was asking myself the wrong questions. Instead of questioning what they would think or like. I should have been asking if I were being true to myself. Fear kept me second guessing for years, now it’s time to leap.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work sets me apart from others because it’s mine. My story, my passion, my thoughts, my hands, my journey with God. I believe that is the most important quality about my work. I am most proud of allowing myself to share with the world. I am eager to know what the future holds. It took a lot of prayer and courage to get where I am today professionally. It wasn’t easy and still isn’t. Fear tends to weigh me down but how will I ever learn to fly? Time to permanently drop off some baggage. I’m very proud of myself and what this journey is teaching me. One lesson I am learning is that my story can only be told by me and God already knows who it is suppose to reach. I want to world to know Lauren Avenue was birthed from depression and life’s challenges but now she stands in joy, happiness, and love. Created by a woman who loves herself and wants you to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like to dress up and enjoy restaurants. One stop would be Kitchen and Kocktails in Dallas. A great place for food and photos. Brunch is always fun. I would take her to VII Kitchen and Cocktails in Arlington. We would close out with a much needed self-care weekend full of pampering.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My first shout out always belongs to God.

Thank you to family and friends for the support. The pop-up community, entrepreneurs, and small business owners.

Special thanks to Monica Bennett and Diana Jones. Thanks again for a seat at your table.
