We had the good fortune of connecting with Swapna Abraham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Swapna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It wasn’t a business. It was a singing-songwriting challenge through 1000 days. I wanted to do something that wasn’t done before. That said, I am also an interior designer, author, actor, and branding consultant.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I’d want the readers to know is how I’d want to be remembered. The singer-songwriter who did a 1000-day challenge setting four world records in singing-songwriting – an afterthought to the decision to give up music owing to a sense of futility even after publishing 22 albums over 25 years. I’d want to be known as the singer-songwriter who reached a wall and this time walked through it.
And here’s what I did:
Composed (music and lyrics) and produced a regular song “live” (including orchestration and singing) everyday and published it the same day.
Did the same for a children’s song every day.
Through 100 days did an additional gospel song in similar fashion.
Through 40 days did an additional 5 songs collating lyrics from the Book of Psalms.
On the 999th day did an additional 20 songs.
Since I ended up doing another regular song on one of those 1000 days, the total number of songs made through the 1000 days was 2321.
The songs were in English; the genre – pop, rock, reggae, house, folk, and gospel; and the themes were around life or God.
Apart from that, I wrote a book “She Played In The Dark” entailing the journey and lessons through those 1000 days. I’m also a marketing and branding enthusiast, an actor, and interior designer with the Designers Society of America.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m new to the place called home. That said, there are a few favourite waterfront properties that boast of great seafood as much as the sea view, that I’d take my visiting friends to; and Ooty in the hills, for walks and drives and conversations over coffee and wine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m a huge admirer of Corrine Rasquinha for her philanthropic work rehabilitating the homeless and destitute in Mangalore. She sets out on a daily basis in search of the hungry and feeds them. Corrine does what most people can only dream of doing. – https://aroundmangalore.com/corrine-rasquinha-white-doves-rehabilitation-institutions-mangalore/
