We had the good fortune of connecting with Sterling “Sirr” Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sterling “Sirr”, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As many businesses do, it started off as more of a hobby. I like working with my hands and building things. I work in IT so getting out and crafting, and building with my hands was what kept me sane. The more I made the more people would remark on the quality and craftsmanship, so with a push from my wife I finally decided to take my hobby more seriously.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I never thought of myself as creative until I began woodworking. Some of my favorite boards are form customers who told me vague instructions and said I had freedom to make whatever I wanted. Those kinds of pieces gave me the confidence to explore and trust in my work. I cant draw a stick figure to save my life but im sitting 3 feet from a barn door I designed and built myself that I never would have had the confidence to build 5 years ago. Its taught me that a cutting board can be art, and that I an be an artist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some friends brought us to Arcade92 in McKinney and its somewhere I would absolutely have to bring friends that visited. Somewhere we can sit and play everything from old school arcade games to 4 player play-station games, we had a great time. I recently took my kids on a walking trail at Heard Natural Science Museum and we absolutely would have to do that as well. My son loves dinosaurs so he had a great time. Here in Princeton we’d stop at Big Spray Brewing for some burgers and taste all the beers. Im more of a lazy-sunday type of person so we’d probably just head to caldwell park and hang out for a bit and let the kids fly a kite or something.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldnt be where I am without the support of my family. My parents have always been there for me, my mother is STILL waiting on several projects from me while continually find more things she’d like me to make! My sister who led by example with her business(Shoutout ‘Ace’s Classy Creations’). My wife who has continually encouraged me, and supported me pursuing my goals, and all of the sacrifices she has made to allow me to grow. I’m also thankful for my community in princeton, my neighbors, and friends for always being encouraging.
