We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Yui and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The design process is long and time consuming to make sure the final product comes out as expected. We base our collections from our personal stories, inspirations, and childhood memories. There can be as many as 6 people involved and months of time spent on research, design, sketches, and prototyping until we send the final designs to our craftsmen.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As one-woman operation, I’m the only person I can rely on and taking responsibility. While things often happen very quickly, I learned to adapt, think out of the box, get inspiration from others, and find solutions. It can be extremely challenging but rewarding when things go right. Often times, sharing ideas and solutions with others who are just starting or with others who are more seasoned has always been paid back many times over. When I started, I didn’t think about this at first, but the more I opened up, the more I realized that we entrepreneurs are actually partners and not competitors.

With all the negativity and division in the world, I wanted to create a brand that makes people smile and happy when they visit my website or my booth. When I see people of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities come to my booth and gush and smile about my designs, it makes all the sacrifice worth it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are still new to Texas and the Dallas area. We LOVE Texas! We’re discovering new things to do around town every weekend. We had a great time eating all the amazing food at the Dallas Farmer Market and were amazed at how big the Fort Worth Zoo is. We have a huge punch list of places to go like the Magnolia Market in Waco and my husband and I love museums and can’t wait to make some time for all the wonderful museums in Dallas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If they say behind every successful man, there is a strong woman, I’d say the same for my husband, Bob Kim.

Over the years since I started Miss Modi, I have received a lot of love and support from my customers, friends, family, and other small business groups, but my husband is the one who support me unconditionally since the moment I decided to start my own business. He watched and guided me every step of the way while encouraging me never to quit even in the worst times.
