We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Early in my career, I honestly felt guilty if I wasn’t working. I wore being a workaholic like a badge of honor and equated constant productivity with success. While I always made time for my kids, I still struggled with the idea of slowing down – even a quiet Sunday afternoon felt unproductive if I wasn’t checking something off a list.
Over time, that mindset has shifted in a really healthy way. I’ve become much more intentional about time-blocking, protecting personal time, and actually enjoying time off without guilt. I’ve made space for rest, hobbies, and even stepping away for a few days to recharge and let my creativity come back.
At this stage of my life and career, I’m very focused on working to live, not living to work. I’ve learned that balance isn’t about doing less, it’s about being more present, more energized, and ultimately more effective in both my business and my life.

What should our readers know about your business?
Real estate is an industry with an incredibly high turnover rate, and I think that surprises a lot of people. It’s much harder than it looks on TV. Beyond helping people buy and sell homes, you have to constantly acquire new clients, master contracts, market yourself on social media, understand sales psychology, stay on top of changing markets, and manage a business – all at the same time.
When I started, I was coming off several years as a stay-at-home mom, and my husband traveled frequently for work. I knew I needed to begin building something of my own, but I also knew I couldn’t go all in right away because of childcare limitations. I had to start where I was, with the time and resources I had. It took nearly a year to earn my first listing, and I can still remember some of the uncomfortable (and honestly scary!) situations I put myself in while meeting buyers in those early days. It was not easy, and there were plenty of moments when quitting would have been the simpler choice.
Today, I’m proud to say that I’m the top agent in my office and lead the top team in my brokerage. I specialize in the community where I raised my family, which means I truly get to serve as the local real estate expert, and I rarely even have to leave my zip code. That connection to place and people is something I’m deeply proud of.
One thing that sets me apart is my commitment to constant learning and growth. I regularly attend my brokerage’s morning market calls, participated in an elite coaching program, and stay on the cutting edge of technology – especially tools like AI-to ensure my listings stand out and my clients are well served.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success in this business is never accidental. It comes from perseverance, adaptability, and surrounding yourself with the right people. The world doesn’t need another transactional agent. It needs trusted advisors who care deeply, show up consistently, and are willing to evolve. That’s what I want my brand and my story to represent.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What a fun question! I’d start right in my own backyard, because North Texas truly has something for everyone. We’d kick things off in Argyle with dinner at Marty B’s-ideally on a night with live music-because it perfectly captures the laid-back, community-driven vibe of the area. Lunch would absolutely be at Little Joe’s Farmstead, our beloved local hotspot where I can almost guarantee we’d run into at least five people I know. It’s the kind of place that instantly makes you feel like a local.
Next, I’d plan a day in Southlake for shopping and great food. We’d stroll through Southlake Town Square and grab a meal at Moxies, or enjoy a glass of wine and the incredible bruschetta flight at Postino, or indulge in my all-time favorite fajitas at Muchacho. That evening, we’d head to Hotel Vin in Grapevine to hop between a couple of their bars, maybe karaoke or live music, to really soak up the energy of the area.
A must-do on the itinerary would be Fort Worth. We’d stay overnight at The Drover and fully embrace the Stockyards experience. If timing allowed, I’d add in a Four Day Weekend improv show for some laughs. The next morning, we’d grab breakfast at Press Café and pair it with a pre- or post-meal walk along the Clearfork Trail.
To wrap up the week, we’d head to Dallas and stay at a boutique hotel like The Statler or The Joule. In the summer, that would definitely include pool and bar time. We’d stop by Honor Bar for lunch, shop in Highland Park Village and NorthPark Center, and spend an afternoon exploring the Bishop Arts District. Dinner at The Henry would be a must, followed by a visit to the Dallas Museum of Art. And no trip would be complete without brunch at the Restoration Hardware restaurant-it’s absolutely worth the hype.
It’s a week filled with great food, live music, walkable neighborhoods, and a mix of small-town charm and big-city energy, which is exactly why I love living and working here!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In 2017, my path crossed with Will Woods, and that moment truly changed the trajectory of my career. Will was launching Magnolia Realty’s second free-standing location outside of Waco, and I still remember sitting in his living room at our very first ground-floor team meeting – just six of us, big ideas, and a lot of belief. Even then, I knew something special was beginning.
Under Will’s mentorship, he believed things about me that I never would have imagined for myself. That level of encouragement and leadership pushed me to grow in ways I hadn’t thought possible, and my business has expanded exponentially as a result.
I also owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to Magnolia Realty and the culture created by its founders, Chip and Joanna Gaines. Working within that organization completely shifted my mindset around real estate. I learned to approach this business through the lens of exceptional customer service, always looking for ways to surprise and delight clients and deliver an experience unlike any other.
One moment that has always stayed with me is when Chip Gaines told us he would rather see us go down in sales volume than go down in our 4.9 Experience.com customer service rating. That philosophy has deeply shaped how I do business and the standards I hold myself to every day.
