We had the good fortune of connecting with STEPHANIE JORDAN HOUSTON JOHNSON and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi STEPHANIE JORDAN, what do you attribute your success to?
For us the important factor is being consistent, without consistency we can’t do anything. We had a problem with that before, but with the way things are going now we’re gaining more support the more drops we put out. If we stop going there will be no success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As young teenagers we always talked about starting a business but we never knew what we wanted to do, until we realized how much we both like fashion. Being at HBCUs like Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University allowed us to see the beauty in black fashion and we knew we wanted to contribute to that. We were inspired by other African-American entrepreneurs and fashion designers. We both wanted to pursue a creative career because we’re both introverts and Top Five Clothing Co. allowed us both to have a creative outlet and have a voice without even having to say a word. Once we made the business a high priority we were able to be more productive. Although work life is a very important factor for us right now, we understand that Top Five Clothing Co.‘s future success relies on us being able to make time for business and our personal lives. Our goal is to allow people to be confident in their dress. Top Five Clothing Co. encourages individuality as well, we want people to be confident in who they are. We intend to express ourselves through fashion.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to dedicate this shoutout to our beloved family members who are no longer with us, Stephen Jordan Sr. , Xavier Marshall , and Deriq Tutt.
