We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Dunbar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
No risk, no reward. I’ve learned that I must step out of my comfort zone and take risks if I want to get to the next level in my life and career. Deciding to leave my corporate job after nearly 10 years was a huge risk. I was comfortable, but I wasn’t fulfilled. I knew that I wanted to be entrepreneur and that there would never be a perfect time to leave my job and start a business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a realtor serving North Texas. I love people and love being of service to people in one of the biggest transactions of their lives. I love real estate and I am a huge interior design fanatic, and plan to incorporate more design aspects (interior design services and staging) as my business continues to grow and evolve.
Soon as I was licensed, I left my corporate job and jumped into real estate full-time, no looking back. It was scary and exciting at the same time, but I knew I had to be all in. It was an emotional roller coaster. It’s not just me, I had to consider my two kids and how this decision would impact our lives. It has not been easy- with the hours I put in, I had to postpone my long distance triathlon races. It was hard on me because endurance training has been such a big part of my life the past couple of years. Most days I work from my car and drive hundreds of miles each week. I talk to so many leads and I get tons of no’s before I hear a yes- and yes doesn’t always pan out. What I have learned is consistency and to keep pushing forward no matter what. I have also learned to take care of people, no matter what and build relationships. When you take care of people, everything else has a way of working out.
What I want the world to know about my brand and my story is that I am all in- for myself and my clients. I am an advocate and I love to see people win/accomplish what they set out to do. I have been able to be successful early on in my business, but not without surrounding myself with the right people, taking advantage of every single resource available, showing up when I didn’t feel like it and sacrifice.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend comes to town- first off, we are headed to Fork and Fire in Plano to eat and drink! The location at The Boardwalk is a super cool atmosphere to just sit, have drinks and hang out. I love sitting out on the patio when there. We would also hit up Denton because they have the best vegan restaurants EVER! We would definitely have to go shopping, and because I love a good deal, we would hit Allen Outlets, Grapevine Mills Mall, and Tanger Outlets. My bestie would also have to indulge my athletic side. We would have to go for a run on Lakefront Trail in Little Elm and a swim at the rooftop pool at Cowboys Fit at The Star in Frisco.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a shout out to my real estate team, The Bryce is Right Team, and our team leader, Bryce Olson. Bryce and the team took a chance and accepted me onto the team as soon as I was licensed. I was eager to learn and they were eager to pour into me and help me be successful. Within two weeks of being licensed, I had my first clients under contract, and have been on a roll ever since! With Bryce and team’s mentorship, encouragement and support, I have achieved far more than I could have imagined, and I am just getting started!
