We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Magovern and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacey, we would love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I came from a family of entrepreneurs, so I always knew I wanted to own my own business. I tried many different things that didn’t stick. After that, I spent many years in the corporate world in outside sales. I was highly successful and won many awards and trips. I couldn’t stop thinking in the back of my mind, that I’m building someone else’s dream. This is when I came up with the idea for my business and I knew if I wanted to change my life, I am the only person that could make that happen. To be honest, I wanted more. I wanted a better life for me and my family. Success is a choice that is backed by allot of hard work, long hours, determination, and tenacity.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a police wife, I learned a lot about police officers. These amazing people put their lives on the line every day, and in most departments, are paid very little. They rely on off-duty work to make ends meet. I watched my husband, who at the time was a full-time police officer, try to supplement our income with off-duty work here and there. As there were no real guarantees of work and very random opportunities. That’s when it came to me, my next big idea. I decided to start a management company for police officers and off-duty work. How amazing would it be if each officer could schedule their off-duty work and know exactly how much additional income they would have each month? It made perfect sense to me. My husband had the police contacts and I, with my sales experience, could get the clients. It wasn’t quite that easy though. I spent the next two years working on my idea while maintaining a full-time job, raising two boys and running a household. I sacrificed every minute of free time trying to make this happen. I started by forming an LLC, Point Blank Safety Services. I began reaching out to highway construction companies, because I knew they used off-duty police for their projects. This became my “Why”. I overcame the challenges, because I knew there had to be a better way to connect police with work, and clients with police. These two years were hard and many times I thought about giving up. I want people to know I didn’t give up and if you truly believe in your vision and are willing to put in the work, it can happen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had an entire week to explore DFW it wouldn’t be enough time. There are so many great things to do. As a self-proclaimed food snob, the DFW area restaurants are amazing. On our first day I would take my best friend to Dallas World Aquarium, where we would spend most of the time viewing the Sloth exhibit and enjoying lunch at one of the three fantastic restaurants inside the aquarium. Day two would be spent at the Fort Worth Zoo, where the gorilla exhibit is one of my favorite places. Then the next must stop is at Railhead Smokehouse, trust me the wait is worth it. Day three would consist of The Fort Worth Stockyards, shopping and watching the cattle drive and of course an amazing meal at Joe T Garcia’s. Day four we would head to Frisco for the National Video Game Museum and then an early dinner at Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill in Addison. Their crab cakes are the best ever. On the fifth and last day of our DFW adventure we would start with breakfast at Burleson Brunch House, a local place with a classically French trained chef. This is where you’ll find the Crab Benedict is to die for. Next, we would end the week with tours of Globe Life Park and AT&T Stadium. Later that night, our last meal most definitely would be a hand cut rib-eye at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse in historic downtown Fort Worth. This list is literally making my mouth water, I need to make this week happen in the very near future.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out goes to my best friend and husband, Michael Magovern. I am constantly blown away by his encouragement and support no matter what. Whether I want to start a business, a nonprofit or write a book he is “all in”. He perfected all the scheduling processes for our business, and I couldn’t do it without him. He is the real reason I have the life I always dreamed about. I am so blessed to have the love and encouragement that allows me to follow my dreams.
