We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Swapp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Spencer, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I’m happiest when I’m with my wife and when I’m busy at work! Staying busy, talking to people, working on cars, all of that is what makes me happy. When I’m done with a car and I’m handing back the keys, the best thing ever is when a customer says they appreciate the way I’ve done the work and treated them well. That makes my day!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

When I think about what makes my business successful and sets me apart from others, I can think of a couple really important things.

First and foremost, my care and concern for my customers. As the sole owner/operator of Optic-Kleer Plano, my auto glass company, my customers and our community are really important to me, and I want them to know they can count on me, my integrity, the quality of the work I do, and my warranty and guarantees. I want them to know that I’m not going anywhere, and if they need help, I’m here. They have my cell number! I’m not just an impersonal tech at a large company. They get the very best work from me every single time. I love being a personal part of the community and helping customers get back on the road safely with their auto glass repaired well.

I think another important part of my success has been not giving up. I don’t like giving up. I’ll keep going until I’m successful! I’m not going to lie – there are times when I’ve thought, “Is this going to work? I’m too young, I don’t know how to make connections, etc.,” but then awesome things happen, and I know it’s going to work out. I’ve been very blessed – I’ve met some great people who do things like refer their customers to me, and I’ve had people stop me in parking lots to help them. Things like that happen and it confirms I need to keep pushing ahead!

Part of starting a new business, whether an auto glass or anything else – it means taking risks, which I love! It keeps life exciting and if you aren’t willing to take risks, you aren’t going to be as successful in life! I have always been up for a challenge. I think part of that comes from a childhood where we moved constantly with the U.S. Air Force, and I always had to act quickly to make new friends and a new life wherever we went. Moving to Texas was another big leap that I made a couple of years ago, and I’m grateful I did, because I love it here. I’m also very grateful for a wonderful wife that supports me in this career, all the risks, and all the time it takes!

I have always wanted to create something myself – to put all my heart and strength and energy into something that I could be really proud of – and when this opportunity came, I leaped at it. I am young, but I am a very hard worker with a lot of motivation to succeed and some serious goals.

Finally, my personal cheering section have kept me going – my wife and my in-laws have been a huge support to me as I’ve gotten this business off the ground and successful so quickly! They are always there, cheering me on, helping me out when the phone is going crazy, and supporting me, even with the long hours!

I think overall, I just want my customers and community to know they can count on me, for the highest-quality job, with honesty and integrity, and that when they need me, I will be here to help.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have loved getting to know Dallas, Highland Park, Plano, all these areas so well! I’ve loved so much about it – the thriving downtown area, the food – DFW definitely has great food – and there is so much to do! The hard part about starting a business is there’s not much time to enjoy it all as much as I’d like. For me, getting some great BBQ is always the best – I love 407 BBQ in Argyle. Our family loves the Fort Worth Zoo, and we recently helped support some friends open the first Ninja Kids Sports Park in North Richland Park. My wife is eager to get to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden this spring and summer and check that out! My grandfather-in-law is a huge history buff, so when he comes to visit, we will be heading out to see the historical sites – the Sixth Floor Museum and the Frontiers of Flight Museum.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could not do what I’m doing without the help, support, love and encouragement from my wife and my in-laws! They have tirelessly supported me in getting this business going and growing! I also have to mention Tommy Welch, owner of Innovative Auto Works in Plano, who has being mentoring me as a business owner and sending clients over as well!
