We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Rahman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Ever since I completed residency in 2013, I spent 5 years being employed by a hospital system. I realized that as a physician you’re kind of at the bottom of the barrel. Therefore, knowing it would be a huge pay cut to my salary, I took the plunge to private practice. I am able to practice medicine the way it should be practiced and meet some wonderful patients along the way. Patients are not just numbers. They are people genuinely seeking help. I have no regrets up to this point.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am an internal medicine practice focused on primary care. We are the first people a person sees when they want to discuss their medical condition. I am able to utilize that info and guide my patient to the right treatment plan or specialty referral for complicated cases. My job is to keep patients out of the hospital and not stuck with a large medical bill. My medical philosophy is based on open communication and collaboration with patients. I believe in making myself accessible to patients via email, social media, and through the patient portal. I’m most proud of being a female owned business and having partners that can guide me along the way! Three fierce minority women running their own practice is something special to be a part of!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eat: I say either a steakhouse as Texas has by far the best steakhouses around! And they beat even Peter Luger in NYC! I do have to add Tex-Mex, which is the best thing about being in Dallas! Drink: not a drinker but I’d take them to Legacy Hall for a unique experience. I’d would actually visit Cowboys stadium for a stadium tour, downtown to check out Dallas unique history and spend the day at Klyde Warren park enjoying the breeze! Maybe a lake day with boating and bbq!!! Would even trek to Fort Worth for a unique Cowboy experience at the Stockyards!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to thank Dr Pamela Moore and Dr Rama Mulupuri for welcoming me with open arms. I want to thank my husband Hashir for being by my side 24/7 and guiding me. I want to thank my parents Dr Pervaiz Rahman and Raufia for encouraging me to explore private practice!
