We had the good fortune of connecting with Sol Bontemps and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sol, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My first thought was wouldn’t it be amazing to link up with artists online and just make dope art! I want to collaborate with as many artists as I can as well as promote their work so that more and more people and enjoy the joy of artwork from badass individuals. Even though I’m a massive introvert seeing folks art just brings something out in me. Seeing others artwork makes me want to reach out to them and get to know more about them and allow other folks to know them as well.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up on anime and Cartoon Network so a lot of my art reflects that. However, I suppose what sets me apart from my peers for a while anyway was the art fighter series where I turn other artists original characters and turn them into fighting game characters with their own sets of moves and command inputs but I also tend to come up with bizarre combinations such as turning King Of the Hill characters into Dragonball stickers.

I feel I’m still on this professional journey. I’m learning more about what works well for my business and what doesn’t. But I’m extremely thankful that folks are still making orders from my shop and buying my silly little stickers and items. Still I will say it definitely wasn’t easy to get to this point especially during Covid. But I think Covid also had me thinking more about my art and what I can do to push and improve my skills as well as market myself better.

I’m most proud and extremely excited about the growth of my page on all social media accounts and the amazing folks I’ve gotten to work with as well as become great friends with to this day. There’s a few other projects I have ongoing as well yet I can’t reveal anything about those yet so I suppose I shall say “Stay tuned”

The most important lesson I did learn is that you can’t work with everyone though. There were a few partners who I worked with in the past that lead me to feel incredibly burned out but I also learned to not blame myself for these mistakes and grow from them.

I want the world to know that art is one of the best ways to express yourself and I hope people are able to understand me better through my art.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Funny enough I’m incredibly boring and mundane. I would just go to parks and enjoy the sights of the people and nature. I would go to comic book shops with my friend and chat with the locals at the shop. We would probably go to a local bar that I’ve never been too before and just shoot the shit. That’s pretty much all I would do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely must give a shout out to Hi-Keif the Kitchen ninja who bought this to my attention! I’m extremely thankful that he even considered me for this series. I also want to give credit to my partner who has been extremely helpful in pushing me further along in my art as well as the art community for being extremely supportive since day one
