We had the good fortune of connecting with Simaria Solis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simaria, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I believe my business will help the community by providing a safe space for artists to create and to grow. As photographers having access to lighting, hair, makeup and wardrobe will elevate their images. As makeup artists still building their kit providing fully stocked kits for a minimal fee and connecting them with photographers and hairstylists to build their network and portfolio of images. And lastly as hair dressers to teach relevant techniques both trend and foundational will give them the skills to grow their business and their clientele. The Collective Artist Space is a place we can make practice and grow together so we can create beautiful art thereby helping our clients whether in the chair or in front of the camera feel their best and look their best!
What should our readers know about your business?
My business has evolved into the The Collective Artist Space through years of coaching and helping to develop new skill sets in our hair and makeup community. I have been a makeup artist for 20 years and a hair stylist for 10. I’ve owned a makeup and photography studio 10 years ago and was very much the artist and didn’t pay as much attention the business side. After I closed that studio I committed to learning the “not fun” parts of running a business like hiring, payroll, managing and educating. I realized that money to artists seems like such a sellout to the craft and too many artists were not making it financially even though they were creating beautiful art. I wanted to bring about an artist space that was not afraid of financial success. I want teach our next group of artists how to love the numbers side while creating beautiful art. Most of my lessons have come from stepping out of my comfort zone and showing up every day even when I didn’t feel like it. Consistent action towards my goals- little tiny steps every day has proven to be the most sustainable way to growth in my business. I’m most excited to bring together hair stylists, makeup artists, and photographers in a unique hybrid Salon/Photography studio environment!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You’re asking the wrong person lol I don’t drink so would bore anyone to tears one week with me. But I do love Mi Dia in Grapevine and if I had to get someone drunk without wasting time I would take them to Mi Cocina in South Lake and I would send them on an uber to the Stock yards because I don’t do the cattle thing. I would probably commit to 3 days not a week haha
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to every person who has cheered me on and spoke words of love and light. They may never know how much each kind gesture fed the soul a little while longer.
