We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Joy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sierra, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
There are a few different avenues that I would like to go within the fashion industry as my career grows and develops. In regards to Weston Ave Styling, I would love to get to a point in my career where I am taking on more of a creative director role for larger companies such as the UK-based brand Seventh. I love the idea of being able to take an idea and blossom it into a full-on production with hair, makeup, wardrobe, set design, etc. Outside of Weston Ave Styling, I want to start an accessories brand where I can truly create one-of-a-kind pieces that speak to who I am as a creative.
I’m not really one for status or fame in my career, truthfully it does nothing for my spirit. My main end goal is to feel fulfilled in what it is that I do. I don’t want to look back on my life wishing that I had done something better or taken an opportunity. As long as I am achieving the things I set out to on my timeline, not anyone else’s, and to the fullest capacity, I have “made it”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey as a creative has taken many different paths ranging from literal cities to titles. I got my start in the fashion industry working in fashion show production. This was hands down the most formative part of my career thus far and where I learned the most about working on a team. I loved being a production assistant, but like many things in life, chapters end when you are forced to pivot. That’s where becoming a stylist was born. I’ve always loved and treasured style, taking a concept and turning it into something more. It makes sense that I landed in this role. I love the people aspect of being a stylist outside of all the really dope clothing and getting to meet a variety of people that I may not ever cross paths with if it wasn’t for the project we’re working on. I think what helps me create strong relationships with anyone I work with is that I approach people as people and never think about what they can do for me. Once you build a human connection as the foundation of your projects everything else is magic. This way of thinking about others is how I will without doubt move for the rest of my career and even personal life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas honestly has so many cool pockets and attractions! My favorite way to explore any city is through its coffee shops so I would easily have to make either Buzz and Bustle, Union, or Sip Stir Coffee House. From there since all my friends love to get cute and have a drink, I’d have to add HG Supply or Hide for day drinking stops. Once the sun goes down, I’d have to for sure add Sky Blossom or even The Henery. You can never go wrong with attractions like the Dallas Museum of Art or relaxing by White Rock Lake.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is one person in particular who comes to mind in regard to giving credit where it is due and that is my sister. Every time I have an idea or a project, my sister is hands down my biggest supporter. Regardless of if she fully knows what I’m talking about or not, she gives me the feedback or validation I need to keep moving forward. She is my backbone and why I work as hard as I do.
