We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sierra, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I always try and have a positive attitude and outlook, not just when it comes to my career and business but in all areas of my life. I think that you can be really talented and work hard, but if you don’t have a positive attitude, it’s pointless. I’m a firm believer that what you think about you bring about. I do have what I like to call character-building days, but I try and stay as positive as possible through it all. I feel like that’s the key to anything to be successful.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that art can heal. It’s helped me through some difficult times in my life. My work aims to be a source of hope and inspiration in others. My relationship with art began at the age of five to help me express my emotions after being diagnosed with craniopharyngioma (a brain tumor) and undergoing surgery. My creative process is very intuitive, and I just go with what I feel at the moment. My mediums of choice are acrylic and watercolor paints. I would describe my art as intuitive abstract. I add a further dimension to my art by handwriting an original poem on the back of each painting. All that I’ve overcome has helped me evolve as an artist and a person. No matter what I go through, I always try and channel that energy positively and create something beautiful out of the situation.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the bishop arts district and my favorite place to eat there is Zen Sushi! They have the best sushi I’ve ever tasted!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everyone who’s supported me and who continues to support me, including my family and friends. But especially my Mom and my Dad. My Mom is my best friend, and she always goes above and beyond to help and support me. My Dad was one of my biggest supporters. I miss him very much, and I’m sure he’s proud of where I am today and what I’ve accomplished so far.
