We had the good fortune of connecting with Sidney Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sidney, what makes you happy? Why?
As a Capricorn, I am fulfilled and made happy through the work I do towards my passions, art, teaching, healthy movement, friends and family, and my Fiance.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something that sets me apart from others is that I paint with coffee tea and wine, I’ve also started using that in collaboration with some digital art to make it more unique. Getting to this point with my art started when a therapist suggested some ideas to help me grow my confidence related to my art practice.
It was a process to try something outside my box and to keep my thoughts about my work from interrupting its growth. One of many lessons that I’ve learned along the way is that making art is more important than making perfect art. If I allow myself to be paralyzed by the looming perfectionist in me then I won’t make anything and making art is the key to improving in art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to see art at the Modern, the Kimbell, and the Amon Carter art museums. We would spend an evening at the bars and restaurants on 7th street in Fort Worth. We would go walking long trinity trails and at Marion Sansom Park. We would go thrift shopping around Fort Worth, Arlington and Dallas! We would eat at Serious Pizza and see the murals in Deep Ellum in Dallas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been supported in the arts since a young age by my Mother, Father, and Grandparents. I’d love to shout them out for developing my skill and allowing me to pursue my passions professionally. Without their support, I would not be where I am today.
