We had the good fortune of connecting with Shemicka Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shemicka, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Not everything is perfect every time. As a perfectionist, I want things to be perfect. Not almost right, perfect. I had to realize, especially in the event world that things are going to go wrong, but that does not mean give up. When things do not go as planned, sometimes it creates new opportunities. I had to realize that perfection is not real, not genuine. People appreciate authenticity and in order to have a successful business, you have to be transparent and authentic. Things are not always about the right place at the right time. Sometimes being in the wrong place at the right time creates more opportunities than ever imagined.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Elevated Experience will be 4 years old this December and we are in the business of elevating lives! We specialize in Social, Corporate and Non Profit Event Planning as well as Sponsorship Assistance. We are proud to partner with Children’s Cancer Fund and City House Children’s Homeless Shelter here in Dallas. We are excited to bring more social events to the Dallas area and, COVID pending, more interactive conferences for the entrepreneurial community.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Family. When I say family, yes I mean my immediate family but I am also referring to my friends that have become family. These people play different roles in where my inspiration comes from. Last but certainly not least is my love, my future husband… who is always encouraging and patient with me. Allowing me to explore the ideas that pop up in my head. I am a very lucky lady to have him in my life.
