We had the good fortune of connecting with Shania Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shania, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Honestly I feel like the artistic/creative career path chose me. God told me the mission, gave me the vision and it just became apart of me! As kids we all have dreams but we don’t all have the resources to accomplish them. Whether it be support, mentorship, or love I aspire to be that resource for our youth!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the founder and CEO of a non profit organization called The PLAYHouse Foundation! Our mission is to (P)rovide (L)eadership (A)round (Y)outh and what sets us a part from others is that additional to mentorship, we challenge our youth to fulfill their dreams, hopes and aspirations! I am most excited about the lives we will positively impact or may even change with our programs/events and I’m most proud of the women I am becoming. It took a lot of believing in myself to get me where I am professionally. A lot of the times we seek validation from social media or our peers that we don’t get and it makes us wonder if anyone will support our movement/products. You literally just have to believe in what you’re doing and do not stop. Truly believing in yourself and your dreams is definitely not easy but I trust that God will send me the people I NEED with me on my journey not the ones I WANT. I’ve learned so many lessons but the biggest one has been consistency. As my mom would say “consistency yields results.” Staying consistent with my mission while balancing life is the biggest goal to me. I want the world to know that The PLAYHouse Foundation will be that change we want to see in our communities for our youth! We are starting here in Dallas Texas but this not where we will end!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend came from out of town we definitely would have to hit up some Open Mic spots to see some of my favorite artist like KarmaaaMusic and KiloB. Have to stop by the Syd Factory for some tasty desserts! Definitely grab us a cute outfit from T’Oir Couture and some keepsakes from The O’Aces Experience and I couldn’t let her leave without getting her make up done by sister for a mini photoshoot with FOCUSEDDD!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely have to give a huge shoutout to my entire village. My family has played a major role in my story. From my parents, sisters, grandparents, god parents, aunts/uncle, cousins and close friends Ive just grown up with so much love and support. Whenever I’m down or discouraged these are the people that keep me going so I stay on the path God has led me. Shoutout to them!!
