We had the good fortune of connecting with Sattie Nyachwaya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sattie, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite Quote is: “Everything you want, is on the other side of fear.” I love this quote so much because it reminds me to always try harder, go farther than before. The only thing that has ever stood in my way, is fear. I love that it is enough to remind me to continue to be brave,  because it’s taken me so long to find my voice.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
work for a nonprofit organization that serves HIV community, LGBTQIA+ communities, and underserved populations. I think one of the things that separate me out from the rest is that my job is not who I am, Yes I work there every day, but when I’m done, I still do community. Growing up,  I knew that I always wanted to help people and be continuously inspired by others, but I feel like I live a cinderella story every day because, people who I embrace through my career and externally,  have empowered me to be a better and stronger person.  I just want people to feel empowered the same way I have become empowered. I started in this journey, when I was an Assistant for a specialty pharmacy, My boss at the time, show and open doors for me about community work, and I just ran with it. I poured myself into everything I could, so I could move around through the company and also in the community. I never thought in a million years I would walk into a space and people would remember me or let me sit at the table. It wasn’t easy journey, I had a lot of internalized personal and career struggles to overcome throughout my journey. I thought I was never good enough or thought that people would never listen. I truly try to live my life out loud because I’ve lived most of my life unauthentically quiet. I want people to know that you should always on a journey to evolve into someone better and stronger and if a door closes, go open another one.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I moved closer into Dallas over 2 years ago. I love Deep Ellum. Anything there is amazing,  Sushi, brunch, and Merit Coffee is so good! My first love, and someone where I’m normally at is Oaklawn, because everyone is always friendly and happy. You can grab a drink at any of the bars, go eat at Mario’s and then get your nails done at the nail shop all on the same street. It’s a one-stop-shop.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my tribe of close people in my life. They know exactly who they are. These people have been there through literally all of the personal changes, the uncertainty and learning. It took me a while to see that they always embrace me with support and motivation. I would not be anywhere without them. I love you all more than you will ever know.
