We had the good fortune of connecting with Samuel Snow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samuel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The vision for this brand came from the Holy Spirit. Building this brand to be something that was not only versatile and distinct- but mainly whatever He wanted it to be- the mission here was hearing from my Most High Father as best possible, with an open heart, and to obey and go where He leads me
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my martial arts academy, known today as Alliance Keller, in my early twenties while still in university. I knew the corporate life was not calling me, so I took off to South America to study and learn under the Alliance Jiu-Jitsu association. I practiced jiu-jitsu with Alliance Ecuador founder, Fernando “Soluço,” Alliance founder in São Paulo, “Fabio Gurgel,” Alliance founder in Rio, “GiGi Paiva,” and Alliance founder in Atlanta, “Jacare Cavalcanti.” The several years of living and tracking back and forth to South America shaped me in ways that help me understand and organize myself in my professional jiu-jitsu career as a black belt Professor.
Owning an academy for long enough can leave you jaded and burned out… I was on the brink of this with a nasty custody battle, divorce, and the subsequent pandemic of 2020. I resigned myself to sell to partners and transition myself away from the administrative side of the business, instead focusing on sales and marketing. Moving from there, I decided to further narrow down my focus to only teaching, training, and competing. This was the spark that reignited my love of jiu-jitsu and all things “bjj lifestyle.” The idea for Roll The World was born in my dark times of the divorce, but it really came to fruition after the dust had settled.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are some great things that have happened in Fort Worth over the past few years, Panther island pavilion being one of them. I love to go paddle boarding on the Trinity River along the bike trails and running paths, the city rising tall as a backdrop, and the occasional fishing line out with a peaceful soul enjoying some quiet and stillness. Tacos are a must and there are sooo many good spots in Fort Worth for authentic, Mexican style, street tacos. Or, if you’re a gringo through and through, I’d take you to velvet taco where they really knock it out of the park. There is also Fort Worth botanical gardens and the museum of science and technology. There are also numerous lakes and good times to be had on the water, especially if you know someone who owns a boat. There are great mountain biking trails in and around Grapevine, and main street grapevine or the Gaylord / Grapevine lake is a cool place for drinks or hiking.
A little further out of town is Possum Kingdom lake and also Fossil Rim Wildlife center in Glen Rose, as well as dinosaur valley state park for the kiddos. Also, for the touristy stuff, you could always do Dallas spots such as the grassy knoll (Kennedy Memorial), Katy Trail, Deep Ellum, Klyde Warren Park, etc.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My business partner, Tristan Monzingo, for the encouragement and supporting the vision at the right time to keep the dream alive. Also to Franco and Matt of Rolling Frames Media for supporting our projects so graciously. A huge thank you to the entire DFW Jiu-Jitsu community for the show of honor and support for our team and our vision. Most importantly, my wife Jessica, for the unfailing support to hear and follow the Father’s heart for our lives.
