We had the good fortune of connecting with Samone Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samone, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Initially it was never a thought on starting my own business, I was more focused on ministry and helping women to grow their relationship with God and to discover their purpose, which is what I’m called to do. My day job I worked as a hospice certified nurse assistant. And although it was ministry I was putting in alot of time and energy. It was then when I began to have a desire to do what I loved to do full-time. But, I was married, and my husband (now ex husband was not inagreement) so leaving my job at that point was not an option. So I continued doing it all work full time, ministry full time. Fast forward many many years later.. I divorced. And even as a single woman and mom I continued ministry and full-time work. But at this point as a single mom I HAD to work my 9-5 job. But I also begin to feel the desire to work on my own, because I realized how important time freedom was, I was responsible for doing everything with and for my children and my youngest son has down syndrome,, so having a child with special needs requires a little more time.. But at this point in my eyes, I had zeron time to focus on being an entrepreneur. That was honestly my mindset. I attempted to, but I never got far. Fast forward a couple of years I met my now husband and that’s when everything changed for me. I met someone that fully supported me. And that was when I was able to focus on turning my passion into a profit and became a full time entrepreneur. I quit my 9-5 job( in my case it was overnights) and I started my Life Coaching and Mentoring business. I coached women 1 on 1, groups, classes etc. I did this consistently for 2 years, and then my love for caring for the elderly and disabled begin to come back, but I knew that I did not want to work for anyone. So I focused on a vision that I had several years prior- opening up my own non medical homecare business. Although I started this business for my own love of caring for people, I also felt that I had to do it for my children and for everyone else who follows me and is inspired by me and my faith. I wanted them to know that if I could do it, so could they. I’ve been working since the age of 15, I didn’t finish college. So, early on I always thought that working a 9-5 was all I could do. But times have evolved and entrepreneurs are on the rise. Although, I didn’t finish college I’ve always been a go getter. In the time that we’re living in, seeing others start their own business and become entrepreneurs, it really motivated me. And through my relationship with God and my faith, I knew that it was possible for me and I want to be an example for my children
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have 2 businesses. From Defeat 2 Victory LLC The Mission is to empower, equip and inspire women to live for God, be authentic, and walk in Victory and Purpose. I do this through 1 on 1 and group coaching, my published books, my from Defeat 2 Victory online University where I offer classes, mentorship, workshops, speaking engagements etc. My newest business- Victory Home Care I offer non medical homecare services to seniors, and adults and children with disabilities. We assist with meals, Dr appts, running errands, medication reminders, light house keeping, Bathing and Respite care. My Victory mindset is what sets me apart. I truly believe that Victory is a mindset and when you understand that Victory is truly yours then it will cause you to look at your defeats( problems, setbacks, struggles issues etc.) differently Every since I began living for God my life has been all about purpose. Literally 1 small thing leads to the next big thing. Everything evolves and grows into something bigger. I gave my life to God- I begin serving in ministry, I wrote my 1st book, I started my own women’s ministry, I became a speaker, I started teaching classes. I started mentorship classes, I became a life coach, and now owning my own non medical home care business. And it all tie together. I have 1 mission is that’s to empower and inspire women. I’ve had challenges of course, but they have all helped to understand people better- good, bad, indifferent. Every challenge has grown me and helped to build my character. I want the world to know that because I have a Victory mindset, everything that I go through works out for my good. God is the one that has called me to a life a Victory. From Defeat 2 Victory is the story of my life. There is no VICTORY without experiencing defeat.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Unfortunately, I am fairly new to Houston, TX. I was born and raised in St Louis MO. I moved to Austin, TX in 2016, and then Houston(Pearland) TX in June 2019. Most of time here has been spent in quarentine. I’m a very simple extroverted introvert lol. I love to shop for home decor, I lovecpretty sceneries and good food! So, we would definitely have a full day of shopping, there are soo many shopping areas in Houston. We would have lunch somewhere in the galleria area outdoors preferably. We would go and check our some live music/bands while drinking mimosas! I’m sure we will attend the Turkey Leg Hut and enjoy outdoors.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Pastor Raymond D Horry. My former Pastor, someone who was a great mentor to me even when I didn’t see it as mentorship. His guidance support, talks, encouragement, it all shaped me into the woman of faith that I am today.
