Meet Salvador Hernandez | Owner and Executive Chef of El Patio Mex-Tex and Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Director at The Lakes at Castle Hills
We had the good fortune of connecting with Salvador Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Salvador, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is giving and providing job outlets and opportunities to others. The most important success of my brand is staying true to who I am and where I came from to represent everything I do authentically.
What should our readers know about your business?
El Patio Mex-Tex is a fusion of authentic Mexican Food and true Texas Barbecue. We are Mex-Tex. The similarities of bold flavors in both Texas and Mexican cuisine led me to create a menu with a blend of both strong styles. The El Patio branding and menu were inspired by by my childhood growing up in Guadalajara. My fathers fresh seafood market, Mexican street vendors, and my culinary career in Texas, my second home are all reflected on the menu. You will see unique items found at El Patio such as the Tableside Trompo, Roasted Chicken, Pulpo, and our Churro Cart!
My journey was not easy and success never is. My career began as a dishwater to prep cook to landing my first executive chef role. I now am an executive chef and food and beverage director alongside owning my first restaurant. A lesson I have learned along the way is you have to respect and understand every single role and moving part to do your job the most efficiently.
I want the world to know if you work hard enough the rewards will follow. There will be challenges as there are with everything but keep pushing forward.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well obviously we have to start at El Patio!

There are a lot of inspirations and lessons I have learned through out the years. There are many people I have had the opportunity to work with to develop myself not only career wise but personally as well.
