We had the good fortune of connecting with Saima Ahmad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Saima, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The most important thing that I want outsiders to understand is how hard we work and how time-consuming and precise the event planning and decor industry is. Because of that, many times it is not easy to explain your prices to your clients. Also, part of my business is custom decor, where I literally create something custom and unique for my clients. Luckily, at the end, most of them realize how time-consuming it is, and they actually say that I should be charging more because of all the hours and hard work that my team and I put into it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The creative part of my business is of course my services of planning, designing, and creating customized decor for any event, especially weddings. This, of course, is the most fun and fulfilling aspect of what I do. What sets me apart is my “East meets West” approach, as I love mixing different materials and palettes in a non-traditional way which I think attracts a lot of youth. Starting something new and making my vision come to life with hard work and dedication is something I am proud of, but of course it was and still is not easy. The lesson I learned is to overcome any challenges is to be persistent and believe in yourself, and the right clients will always find you who truly value what only you can offer. I definitely want to everyone to know that when you see the finished product/pictures of any event, please realize that there is tons of time, energy, and creativity involved. At Saima’s Events, I take pride in my professional services and I believe all of my clients feel very comfortable working with us.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The most fun places to check out would be The Shops at Legacy and downtown Dallas. Both have great places to shop, eat, and spend valuable time with friends and family.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to give a shoutout to my dear daughter, Nimah Khan, who truly encouraged me to pursue my passion and dream. She also helped me with launching my social media, especially Instagram, which honestly I was not good at. I also loved working with her to create my website and I have learned so much from her.
