We had the good fortune of connecting with Roxanne Cavazos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roxanne, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Sharing my life with others, with strangers. It’s difficult to share your personal experiences and struggles online and not knowing who’s reading it. If people will judge me without knowing the real me.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m not sure if I’m different from anyone else or other brand. I’m just me, I’m just Roxie. I blog and speak about issues that are important to me. Some issues are from my personal journey. There are some issues that no one speaks about, because it’s a stigma. On my website, I’ve always been upfront that I want it to be a stigma free zone. I’m most proud of the positive feedback I receive on issues about anxiety, depression and psoriasis. When someone messages me or comments that a certain blog post has helped them, it inspires me. It makes me want to continue doing this kind of work, it keeps me going. I say quite a lot that if I help just 1 person in this chaotic world, then my job is more than done.

As for has this journey been easy? Absolutely not. I don’t think it’s supposed to be. I think the struggles is what make the accomplishments worth it in the end. But I’m far from being at the end. I have a ways to go, quite a bit, in fact. I feel like I’m just getting started, it’s been 4 years, so that isn’t too long. What I can say is that it’s been an eye opener for sure. I’ve had ugly messages sent to me, some people can be rude because they don’t like a certain opinion of a product I review. That’s ok, it comes with the territory. I’ve learned to be nice, I never send a rude message back but instead say, “Thank you for your feedback, it’s much appreciated.” I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to be patient. If you want to be successful, you have to wait. Good things happen, especially when you least expect it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow, that’s a cool question. Hmm, I live right in the middle, between Austin and San Antoinio. If I had to choose, I’d choose San Antonio. I know, I know, this might anger some. But I’m more of a San Antonio girl. So, we’d start with some breakfast tacos. It’s hard to choose which restaurant, there are so many. After breakfast, a visit to the Institute of Texas Cultures (a museum), then a walk to The Alamo. After the Alamo, we have to go to the Riverwalk, that’s a must, you simply must take a barge and cruise the river walk in style! Lunch at Schilo’s, they make the best homemade root beer. If not Schilo’s, then Josephine Street, where there is a tree in the middle of the restaurant, it’s so cool. Depending if the San Antonio Spurs are playing, then let’s take a game and cheer them on, and of course we’ll definitely eat or snack while being there. End the day with some amazing pan dulce (again, it;’s hard to choose from where, that’s a hard decision). Other note worthy places to visit while vacationing: San Fernando Cathedral, it’s so beautiful inside. San Antonio Missions & Mission Trail, the mission are so beautiful to look at, and the Mission Trail is quite scenic as well. Mi Tierra is a restaurant that you have to eat at when visiting San Antionio. And when you’re done eating, walking around Market Square is an absolute must. Market Square is full of shops and has unique items.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family, my husband and my best friends. Without these 8 people, I have no idea how I would get through those difficult days. They cheer me up, let me vent, never let me put myself down or let me give up. They do all of this without judging any situation I’m in. I’m forever grateful to them.
