We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Who and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There is a lot that can be said here but I will try to summarize the main points.

The thought process behind starting my own business, Our Connected World, was driven by a combination of personal experiences, passions, and a desire to create value for others. Throughout my years of traveling and living abroad, I had the opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. These experiences opened my eyes to the beauty and interconnectedness of our world.

From an early age, I had a deep-rooted desire to explore and truly understand the planet we inhabit, not just in terms of its physical aspects, but also in terms of the connections we forge with one another. This desire to explore and connect became the driving force behind the creation of Our Connected World.

The name itself, “Our Connected World,” holds a significant meaning for me and encapsulates the essence of my business. It signifies the belief that we are all part of a global community, intrinsically linked through shared experiences, ideas, and aspirations. By fostering connections and facilitating meaningful interactions, I aim to bridge gaps, promote understanding, and create a sense of unity in a world that often feels divided.

Through my business, I strive to provide a platform where individuals can come together, share their stories, and learn from one another. This could be through various mediums such as online communities, educational resources, events, or even physical products that promote cultural exchange and understanding.

The core values of Our Connected World revolve around embracing diversity, fostering empathy, and promoting global citizenship. By encouraging dialogue, collaboration, and mutual respect, I believe we can create a more inclusive and compassionate world.

Overall, my thought process behind starting Our Connected World was fueled by a genuine passion for exploration, a deep appreciation for human connections, and a commitment to making a positive impact on our interconnected planet.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
By integrating a deep passion for travel, a profound understanding of psychology, and a commitment to empowering others, Our Connected World offers a distinct approach to personal growth and transformation.

I am incredibly proud and excited about the opportunity to create a safe space where individuals can explore their potential, find support, and embark on a journey of personal and professional development. The focus on education, mentorship, and networking allows me to provide tailored guidance and individualized attention to each person’s unique needs and aspirations.

Getting to where I am today in the business world has been a challenging but rewarding journey. It certainly hasn’t been easy, as starting and growing a business requires dedication, perseverance, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. I faced various obstacles along the way, including building a customer base, establishing credibility, and navigating the complexities of running a business.

To overcome these challenges, I embraced a mindset of continuous learning and improvement. I sought out mentorship from experienced professionals in both the travel and psychology fields, which provided invaluable guidance and insights. I also invested time and effort into expanding my knowledge through research, attending relevant workshops and conferences, and staying up to date with industry trends.

Moreover, I recognized the importance of building a strong support network and fostering meaningful connections. By actively engaging with like-minded individuals, collaborating with other professionals, and creating intimate spaces for networking and growth, I was able to overcome challenges more effectively and expand my reach.

Throughout this journey, I have learned several valuable lessons. One of the key lessons is the significance of authenticity and staying true to my values. By aligning my business with my passions and core beliefs, I have been able to create a genuine and meaningful connection with my audience. I have also learned the importance of resilience and adaptability in the face of obstacles, as well as the power of collaboration and community building.

What I want the world to know about Our Connected World is that it is a brand driven by a deep commitment to empowering individuals and fostering personal growth. The combination of psychology, education, mentorship, and networking creates a holistic approach that allows people to thrive in various areas of their lives. The emphasis on intimate spaces and tailored attention ensures that each individual receives the support and energy needed to embark on their journey of growth and transformation.

Ultimately, Our Connected World is about helping people live life fully, expand their skills, and transition to a new chapter in life that feels fulfilling and aligned. It’s about providing a safe and empowering environment where individuals can explore their potential, learn new skills, and connect with a global community of like-minded individuals. Through the power of networking, education, and mentorship, I aim to empower others to create a life that embraces their passions and allows them to thrive, wherever they may be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone visited me for a week I would definitely do a mix of mountains and city.

Mountains: Hikes in Canmore area and Banff, camping in Kananaskis and get to Jasper to enjoy the national park up there too.

For the city I would go downtown and explore Stephen Avenue. Take a stroll along this vibrant pedestrian street filled with shops, restaurants, and historic buildings.

For brunch I would take them to Maven, my favorite brunch spot in Calgary (and plant shop! I am a plant mum soooo)

I’d do post-brunch at Kensington Village because it offers a lively atmosphere and a wide range of culinary options and cute cafes.

Then , during the day I would have them take a walk at Prince’s Island Park: Take a leisurely stroll through this beautiful urban park situated on an island in the Bow River. Enjoy the serene surroundings, lush greenery, and perhaps catch a summer festival or event.

For dinners I would suggest 17th Avenue as it offers cozy pubs, bars and restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Danielle Ryan. I really share with her the views on the business coaching industry, overpriced programs and ‘covidpreneurs’. She genuinly want to help Canadian Small Business Owners. She has helped me realize how much I also do not believe in a lot that is shared in the online space and how tired I am of some aspects of “business coaching industry”. As small business owner myself I have gone through a lot of investments and seeking guidance and Danielle tells it how it is – a lot of fluff out there. She genuinely cares about you and your business and has practical insights to it. I see her as a Business Advisor and I think the fact she is Canadian can help even more for those like me…in Canada.
