We had the good fortune of connecting with Richie Conry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Richie, how do you think about risk?
One of the most frequent comments I get from people who visit the trailer is “You are living my dream!!!” Without hesitation I respond “No. I’m living MY dream, not yours. Why aren’t you living YOURS.?” There’s usually a mic drop, crickets chirping, silence of epiphany in those moments followed by an understanding grin of inspiration. I truly believe everything we want in this life, in the deeper sense of that, is on the other side of our fears. I almost feel like I’m wired to take risks or I’m disciplined in a way that makes the risk make so much sense to me. As in, why would I not burn my boats to take the island, if the island is what I want? This life is way too short to not pursue that which brings us the most joy and gives us a sense of purpose. Money comes and goes, but to put your head on the pillow at night knowing you put yourself out there and took a risk and worked hard… it’s a priceless feeling. Take risks and burn the f#$king boats baby.
What should our readers know about your business?
Moon Wolf is a desert inspired mobile coffee and provisions shop based out of an old goat trailer. Our motto is a quote by Atticus, “You are never alone. We are all wolves howling to the same moon”. And we live by it. We don’t compete with anyone, we collaborate. We have a private label coffee through Frame Coffee Roasters. We have a good friend that makes our Moon Wolf mugs. My brother does prints for us from out West. My girlfriend does the artwork. My daughter does hand drawn greeting cards. We have a collab with a sushi chef coming, and another with a hot sauce maker. I make custom bags, zippos, yada yada yada. We just have a really good time always and that joy and gratitude exudes from the trailer to customers. It is not easy, but it is really fun. The biggest challenge I would say has just recently come about and that’s just committing to the right events for Moon Wolf. It’s a good challenge bc we’ve gotten so much demand and requests for events, but learning from experience has really taught me which ones are right.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a nature loving, coffee fanatic that likes a solid beer at a local brewery, or a whiskey or Tequila neat sitting around a massive backyard bonfire while something is on the grill. I have some “secret” nature spots I’d take them to with a sixer of something from Manhattan Project Brewery and run amuck out there. Probably hit Bishop Arts for some pizza at Enos then find a dive bar like Sons of Hermann Hall or Mikes Gemini Twin. Would need to hit Movement gym to do some bouldering and a sauna session to sweat out the shenanigans from the previous night. Definitely hit LDU for coffee at some point then likely a few nights in there at Manhattan Project Brewery for beers and the two piece chicken.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Gees where do I start… But it has to be the woman at my side, my love Sarah Ratliff. When I first met her, she came over as I was working on the trailer. I mentioned I was thinking of paying someone to help me brand and design what Moon Wolf was going to be essentially. Without hesitation, she looked at me, “are you kidding me? You are going to do it because you can and it’s gonna be badass!” Needless to say, I didn’t pay anyone and the branding and aesthetic is one of the biggest compliments I get. Sarah is my muse, my in house artist, my biggest supporter and I’m forever grateful for her.
