We had the good fortune of connecting with Renee Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renee, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I do not believe that I pursued this career, it actually chased me. I had a desire at nine years old to learn how to braid and after getting a doll with synthetic hair, I practiced until I figured it out and from there the rest is really history. I had my first client at the age of 10 and received my cosmetology license at the age of 22. I started making wigs initially for myself just to have the freedom to be able to change my hair whenever I desired. My clients began to notice and inquire about my wigs and that’s pretty much how the business started.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a hairstylist, I never wanted to limit myself when it came to creativity and I also believe that that is one of the things that sent me apart. What I am most excited about are my bespoke wigs. These hair pieces are handcrafted, often times using a mold of the clients head. I had the wonderful opportunity in 2022 to travel to the UK to take an advance ventilating class, which is the artistic method of adding strands of hair into a very thin Swiss lace. I believe I’ve gotten where I am today because I’ve remained a student and no it was not easy, but I’m always open to learn. When I realized how many women started coming to me that was dealing with hair loss issues, I really wanted to offer a solution and not just any type of solution, but a natural one where they would be comfortable wearing hair that’s not necessarily growing from their head.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow! So if I had someone that was visiting the area, I will probably take them to The Star in Frisco. There are many wonderful restaurants there with absolutely amazing food. We will then head over to Legacy West and do a little bit of shopping and then we would repeat, lol.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, can I shout out to God?! Because He is indeed, the author and finisher of my faith and I believe with him all things are possible! I want to thank my beauty school instructor, Ms. Mary. She really prepared me for this industry and my decision to focus on the business side as well as the creative side. In 22 years, I have had so many mentors and people that I’ve been divinely connected to so I am extremely grateful.
