We had the good fortune of connecting with Reggie Jennings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reggie, how do you think about risk?
Calculated risks are a must. Anyone who has ever been successful or done something great took a calculated risk. My thought process about risk is simple. I ask myself a question. “Am I willing to accept the results/consequences (good or bad) of this calculated risk?” From there if I don’t know a good portion of the potential results I sit down and reassess what it is I am trying to do and work from there.

Taking calculated risks is frightening at times, as it should be. However, I am a firm believer that we as humans weren’t given a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. While it is okay to feel fear, it is not okay to operate or live in fear. We only have one life and for the majority of us living on this earth, we are the result of someone who took a calculated risk. Not just in relation to birthing us but for the opportunities we have. Someone took a risk and built a plane, someone took a risk and figured out how to cook steak and chicken. The list goes on and on.

Taking calculated risks have played a significant role in my life. Two roles that stick out was first transferring from university to another to play football and the other is moving to Texas. I left my first university, Lincoln University (MO), as a freshman full ride scholarship player who started 10 out of 11 games and was successful for a walk-on (non scholarship position) at a Division 1AA school, Southeast Missouri State University. I proudly can say that was one of the best decision/ risks I took in my life because I learned how to challenge myself at a new level, bet on myself, but most importantly embrace the feelings of taking on a calculated risk. I earned a full-ride scholarship 2 semesters after being on campus and was a starter for 3 years, starting 46 out of 48 games!

The other risk I took was coming out to Texas. I had just completed my first Masters degrees (Higher Education) and had to choose between a 2nd round interview for a full time job or take an internship at Texas Christian University. I was 26 at the time with no health insurance and no more than a handful of dollars to my name. I felt in my soul God tell me to go to Texas. I listened. I was scared! But I listened. Now 5 years later, I have a MBA from TCU, working in Real Estate full time as a Financial Analyst for a Developer and as a Realtor for the top independent brokerage in North Texas, and the list goes on.

Long story short, for me calculated risks are a part of life and I embrace them even when painful. I bet on myself and I put my full faith in Jesus Christ because I know He’ll take care of me through the good times and bad times.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Currently, I serve as a financial analyst for a woman-owned real estate development company and I am a realtor for the largest independent real estate brokerage in North Texas.

What sets me a part is my character, integrity, knowledge/education, effort, and willingness to fail through trying.

What I am most proud of is whatever I do in the day I am in. Everyday isn’t promised so for me to do something is a feat in itself. My main mission everyday is to make someone smile or laugh. If I do that, I don’t care what didn’t get done that day, that specific day was a good day because someone else was able to feel joy and happiness, even if for only a moment.

I got to where I am by the grace of God and by betting on me and putting in work. It wasn’t easy. I overcame challenges by being real with myself, trusting God’s timing, building genuine relationships with people, and trying new things even if I failed.

Best lesson I learned along the way is that it’s okay not to be perfect, because no one is. Only Jesus is perfect!
