We had the good fortune of connecting with Awtee The Esthie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Awtee, what inspires you?
In a short answer I’m most inspired by the future. I’ve always been someone who prides myself on stepping outside of my comfort zone. I feel like when we get comfortable with being uncomfortable, that’s when we surprise ourselves. It’s inspiring to look back at your journey and see all the progress that’s been made, and what progress is yet still to come.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For me, I’ve always been someone whose loved art in general, being able to create things is a form of therapy for me. When a client asks me how I do such tedious work, my response is usually I like to focus on the small details of things, big pictures can be overwhelming and make things seem impossible or stressful, and I’m defiantly more of a who, what, where, when, and why type of person. So, focusing in on small details, just works for me and makes me feel good. With that said, having that type of mindset is why I am where I am today professionally, and no it was definitely not easy! The most challenging part was…. not was IS just staying consistent and trying not to let negativity creep in and keep me from setting aside time to actually better myself/craft. The most important things I’ve learned is set goals, write down what you want from whatever you’re doing, always have progression content, dedicate time each day to your craft, and the most important which I think we all know but can sometimes let fall to the waist side is don’t compare yourself to the next person. It can be hard to do, but when your start to focus on yourself and what you can do to help a greater group that doesn’t go unnoticed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay, I am an introverted extrovert for sure…. meaning I am very social, but 9x out of 10 I am at home by myself making excuses as to why I can’t go out and need to stay home with my Cat Lilo. BUT if I have a best friend coming into town, not going to lie TikTok is probably my Goto when I need food/drink ideas. So, off top, I’m doing your lashes, I’m getting lash content from you for sure and since you here for a week we got to have some chill days so definitely getting crafty things for us to do at the crib like painting, wine, and board games. For nice dinners I’d say Drakes Hollywood or Nick and Sam’s. Night out … anywhere I don’t have to wait in line and stand around. For entertainment, museums, Jade & clover, or I’m looking for concerts or shows happening that week. It is Dallas, so why not throw a Mavs or Cowboys game in there!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Literally there are so many who come to mind when I think of the words: support, mentorship, and encouragement. Although my journey in this beauty world hasn’t been that long, there have been many physical/online peers and mentors who have taught me so much and pushed me to where I’m at today. From the lash courses I invested in, to the school I decided to get licensed from, the jobs that I accepted and even declined; everyone has played an important role here. So, no there is not one over the other that I would single out, it took a village to get my story to what it is right now.
