Meet Reco “Wess” West | Producer, Engineer, & Music Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Reco “Wess” West and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reco “Wess”, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Consistency and Intentionality! Often times people associate consistency with the idea of constantly being physically present at every event, constantly posting on social media platforms, or rapidly releasing content to keep up with others. While there may be some truth to those things bringing you success, given the age we live in and algorithms, etc., I’d like to highlight the other essential areas to be consistent in. Being Consistent and intentional towards my relationships is one. Nurturing and stewarding the relationships you have with people, especially those who directly effect and contribute to your business is essential. Even those you value who might not directly impact your work. They are your support and backbone and whether you see it immediately or not. I’ve found that these relationships have sharpened me and have helped keep me grounded. I strive for excellence in everything I touch or do, and in order to achieve that goal I often have to check my heart and even the heart behind a project I’m taking on or those I’m working for/with. I push to be intentional with everything I create, and most certainly with a vision or something of someone else’s that has been placed in my hands. Every idea, every sound I may use, every instruction or suggestion I may give to my band, etc. is intentional. Another couple of areas consistency and intentionality have helped me succeed in so far would be diligently investing time into practicing/growing in my craft, and also in the Quality of my work, whether that be creative/artistic content, or just work in general or any work attached to my business and my name really. Consistency in Quality is huge and a MUST in my line of work. Quality really does trump quantity and has proven to promote healthy longevity. My father once told me that “Being busy doesn’t automatically mean being productive. BE EFFECTIVE.” So to summarize, if you’re consistent and intentional in relationships, investing time to grow in your craft and produce excellent quality, and if you keep a genuine heart put care into what you do, you will succeed.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Music Producer, Engineer, and Musician. I’m also the Music Director for Jonathan Traylor, and a Worship Leader at Covenant Church. Needless to say, I wear a few different hats. I love to Create! I’m a lover Art period, but Music runs through my veins. What may set me apart in this field is my genuine love for Music, my ear for it, and my heart. I listen to everything and always listen to find the beauty and soul in it. While I may have a certain style of production or personal taste for my leisurely listening (while working out or cooking, etc.), I don’t discriminate between genres or styles. This has proven to be very helpful when working with various artists and clients. I’ve learned to embrace differences and have trained my ear and continuously nurture the gift/ability I have to hear and feel what translates well generally. I always aim to do that and create in that space without compromising the integrity and intentions behind the song/creation/composition/arrangement. I feel as though we move through life on frequencies and that all things pertaining to life itself are frequency driven. I believe music to be a tool having the power to connect us all and so I use my ears to find those possible connections while creating or playing. That’s probably something that sets me apart. I look at it that way, whereas there are many who are in the same field that just do it as a hobby. There’s nothing wrong with that whatsoever. It’s just deeper than that to me.
It has taken a lot to get to where I am today and I still have much further to go. Discipline, Consistency, Faith & Prayer, Investing, Time Management, Many “No’s”, and a strong support system (my Family), have contributed and pushed me to this place I’m in currently. The Lessons I’ve learned are endless especially considering I’m still learning and growing. I realized that you will make mistakes, but as long as you find a growing and learning point through them, apply yourself, strive for better, and don’t allow those moments to break you, you will be okay. I’ve also learned that everyone has Value and as long as you treat others as such, you will receive that same respect. I love my job(s) because I love that I get to give back in a sense, and pour into others while also being sharpened in the process. There’s nothing like seeing and taking an idea or just a thought, and breathing life into it and it become reality. That’s a dream come true and I’m grateful for the opportunities I have to do that.
I love what I do and I give all credit and praise back to the Creator himself. Without him I am nothing. Through him all things are possible and I’m living in that truth now. It’s been a long road but such an incredible journey so far.
Wess Productions is moving and growing and is here to stay. We offer Music Production, Mixing & Mastering services, and also Creative Consulting. We service Music Artistry, Television & Podcasts (themes), etc. We’re here to just spread love, joy, and have fun creating Good Vibes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Alright so check it! There are so many amazing places and things to do here in Dallas! However, my life pretty much revolves around Food lol!
We would definitely have to take a stroll down Elm St. and hit up either Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, Wing Buckets, Deep Sushi, or Revolver Taco Lounge. During that week we’d definitely have to pull up to The Crab Station located between Main St. and Commerce St. and for dessert, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams on Main St.
There’s also The Twisted Root or we’d head over to Southlake for a lunch at LoLo’s Chicken and Waffles. It’s a week right, so why not try all of them? Day time activities would include a stroll through Main Street Garden, a boat ride over at Lynn Creek Park in Joe Pool Lake or even through Lake Lewisville. I also found a really dope Arcade, Arcade92 Retro Arcade Bar + Kitchen over in downtown McKinney. Our nights would find us back in the great Deep Ellum or perhaps a fun time at the MainEvent over in Frisco. Sunday you would find us at Covenant Church in Carrolton.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d first like to dedicate this to my wife Loretta. Also, my brothers Dami “Mr.Damention” Adeoye, Gordon Walters, Miko Allyn, Qorey “Actz” Thornton, and Jonathan Traylor. They have and continue to relentlessly invest, push, and pour into me to get to not only where I currently am, but also where I am headed. I wouldn’t be the same without them.
