We had the good fortune of connecting with Raven Grandberry and Jakaya Brawley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raven and Jakaya, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Social media has a way of boxing influencers in and conforming them to the “standards” of social media. One piece of conventional advice that we disagree with is “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. We believe in portraying true authenticity and rawness when we reach our audience. Our goals are not to only reach people but to impact others and transform the world. Success comes with uncomfortableness and taking risks. Focusing on what “works best” for us will keep us stagnant and place us into the box with standard influencers. We are open to implementing new things that will allow for us to share more of God’s word instead of allowing for the fear of failure to drive consistency. Taking the risk without worry of consequences is true influencer freedom. We value Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Unlike most businesses, Savage Girl Prayer is a ministry created out of pure trauma. It is a community for women to join hands, embrace their flaws/imperfections, heal, and worship God without fear of judgement or not being accepted. Our ministry was created to give back to our community and pour into the women who spend their lives pouring into others. It is not easy creating a business that is not based on income or profit however, our goal to impact the world surpasses any dollar amount. We would like for the world to know that we created this platform for any and everyone. We welcome all people in different walks of life. The “Perfect Christian” does not exist with us.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas is known for the beautiful Downtown skyline and the Lit Sunday Funday Vibes! Visiting the Reunion Tower at night will give you the ultimate 360 view of Dallas. Friday nights at Crab Station are always a steal! Visiting Deep Ellum on a Saturday or Sunday is essential. Deep Ellum is the best place to shop at cute boutiques, eat, and hang out while enjoying hookah! Dallas is filled with so many hidden gems and surrounded by amazing people. A good time is always guaranteed!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely God deserves the glory as he always does. There would be no Savage Girl Prayer without God; it’s the whole point. Serving God is the only type of serving that actually serves you in every aspect of your life. In addition, we can not forget our family and friends who motivate us not to just work hard, but to have fun doing it. Lastly and certainly not least, our community. The Savage Squad is always on point from Prayers to events. We are so happy that we are able to do community with them.
