Meet Rachel Sanches | Creative Entrepreneur & Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Sanches and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is a necessary action for a fruitful life. Over the years I’ve started and grown different businesses, each of them has required risks. Without taking steps of faith into the unknown I would not be where I am today: a full-time mom-preneur that’s been able to work 100% from home with a super flexible schedule. Taking the plunge to move that idea from your head into reality is all about risk and really that’s what being an entrepreneur is all about. One of the first businesses I launched with my good friend was recycling clothing and older objects into purses and handbags, we had a lot of fun and we decided to go all in and host our very own runway show with a budget of $0. It was a huge success for our small brand. More recently myself, husband and friends launched our hand-curated wagyu beef subscription box (Swagyu Box Co.). This business venture involved lots of financial risks and with time-sensitive food products we had to move our Wagyu beef at a faster pace than most businesses typically need to sell through. While it had a bumpy beginning, it was paying for itself within 2 months of business and has taken off since then. We are so excited to continue growing this brand.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Well as I mentioned I’ve started multiple businesses over the years. All have had their own successes in different ways, and each has lasted for a season. Of course there have been ups and downs, but you just have to keep on trying because eventually something will stick. Currently my time has been invested into three completely different businesses that have all been launched in the past year or so.
Baba’s Remedies – this project has been dear to my heart as I launched this business with my husband, in honor of my late grandma (babushka) who was a holocaust survivor and an amazing woman. Her story is incredible, what inspired me was her love for herbal/home remedies. Our flagship product for Baba’s Remedies is our Immunity Powder, we launched this during the height of the pandemic in 2020 and it has continued to gain traction. It’s made in the USA and tastes amazing, something we really pride ourselves in. Some of our successes have been gaining new retailers, or being able to offer our products on Amazon and Walmart.com. I hope you’ll grab a jar and see for yourself!
Swagyu Box Co. – I mentioned a little about this business earlier, our good friends have been raising Japanese Wagyu beef right here in Texas for several years. The beef is incredible, it melts in your mouth and it’s really like nothing you’ve tasted before. We put our heads together on how we could bring this super high quality meat directly from the farm to consumers. We knew people were looking for ways to up their at-home cooking game. Our first product was the “Lockdown Box” – with so many different cuts of Wagyu it could sustain you for another lockdown. We then launched our “Monthly Box” as a subscription farm box for those that want a delivery from the farm every month. We are continuing to innovate new products, including a Swagyu Bar, keep your eyes out for this and support our local Texas-raised beef.
Tidy Flamingo Residential & Commercial Cleaning – This business is the freshest and is really off to a huge start for something thought up at the dinner table with family. Long story short, family of ours had owned a successful cleaning company for over 10 years, prior to the pandemic, but business had dwindled and they were in need of a revamp. We rebranded and relaunched as Tidy Flamingo back in May, and let me tell you, this is the first business where I received a pay check in the very first week. I’d say that’s a huge success. It may not be a glamorous business but it’s been fun to work with family and serve the greater Austin area in the cleaning realm!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since we live in the Austin area I’ll give you a shortlist of our favorite spots in the area.
1) Town Lake – go for a run, walk or rent a SUP and take it for a spin on the lake – this is a must do!
2) Explore the East side – there’s so much culture and good food
3) South Congress – take a walk, eat something, stop at Jo’s for coffee and a pic
4) See the Bats at dusk off Soco bridge
5) Mozart’s coffeehouse – live music and coffee
6) Explore the hill country – Driftwood, Wimberly and Canyon Lake are some of our favorites
7) Bike Brushy Creek Trail
8) Go Birding at Balcones Canyonlands Wilderness Preseve

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Joe, my husband of almost 15 years (we got married pretty young!) has been by my side, encouraging me and working alongside with me. He always has a positive outlook and has been a driving force for all my ventures. I also have to say a huge thank you to my sweet family and friends for supporting all my different businesses in so many ways. You’ve all been a blessing! Most of all, God has been by my side and has truly blessed my endeavors.
