We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Horton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting Furry Friends came from my deep love for animals and my desire to create something better for them. I noticed that traditional boarding is not always the best option because many pets struggle with anxiety, health conditions, or stress when they are away from home. I kept thinking about how much more comfortable and secure pets feel when they can stay in their own familiar environment. That became the foundation of my idea, to build a service that brings the care to them.

I wanted to create a business that gives families peace of mind while giving pets the love, attention, and personalized care they deserve right where they are happiest. It was also important to me that this business reflect my values of compassion, trust, and genuine connection. Starting Furry Friends was a risk, but I believed in both the need for this kind of service and in my ability to provide it with heart and dedication. That belief turned into a business that allows me to live out my passion every day.

What should our readers know about your business?
Furry Friends began with a simple idea: to provide loving and dependable care for pets while their families are away. What sets us apart is the way we treat every pet like our own, bringing compassion, professionalism, and a personal touch to everything we do. As a mother and daughter team, we are bonded not only to each other but also to the animals we care for, and we are proud to be recognized in Prosper and Celina as a trusted choice for pet care.

Getting here was not easy. Like many small businesses, we faced challenges such as building trust, finding the right clients, and balancing growth with quality care. We overcame those challenges by staying true to our values, being persistent, and constantly learning. Along the way we discovered how vital communication, patience, and genuine connection are, not only with pets but also with their owners.

What excites us most is the impact we make every day. We give pet owners peace of mind, we keep pets happy and healthy, and we strengthen a community that values love and care for animals. The foundation of our success is trust. Pet parents place their beloved animals in our care, and we never take that lightly. Being family-owned means our clients know we are personally invested, and that trust is what keeps us growing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Frisco, Texas, we’d dive into the city’s mix of sports, culture, and local charm. We’d start at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters, exploring the Ford Center and grabbing a bite at one of the trendy spots nearby. Downtown Frisco and Frisco Square would be perfect for strolling boutique shops, enjoying local art, and sipping coffee at a cozy café.

We’d spend a day celebrating Frisco’s sports culture at Toyota Stadium and maybe catch a Frisco RoughRiders game at Dr Pepper Ballpark. For a mix of fun and learning, we’d explore the National Videogame Museum and the Museum of the American Railroad, getting hands-on with interactive exhibits. Evenings would be about relaxing with great food, whether at Sixty Vines, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, or classic Texas comfort food at Babe’s Chicken Dinner House.

Throughout the trip, we’d balance iconic landmarks with small-town charm, delicious local eats, and plenty of opportunities for strolls, laughs, and memories… perfect for showing off what makes Frisco special.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a heartfelt shoutout to my daughters. Their mere existence has been a cornerstone in my journey. We often think of success as a solo achievement, but the truth is, it’s the people who lift us up, challenge us, and believe in us that make the difference. I’m deeply grateful for their encouragement and influence… it’s played a huge role in shaping where I am today.
