We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachael, what makes you happy? Why?
The song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong has been a huge inspiration to me since the first time I heard it! This song always reminds me of how beautiful life can be, and teaches me to appreciate every single day that we have on this Earth.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I had a heavy background in computer sales long before I got my start in real estate. After coming to this country from Taiwan with not much more than just a suitcase of clothing, I’ve defined a career here for myself with the help of many mentors along the way.
A big hurdle that came from being in a new country was, of course, an entirely new language. That said, I’ve always had a go-getter spirit, & that’s helped me with always asking questions and learning. I’ve never been afraid of looking silly or being brave – that’s a huge reason why I’ve been able to learn and do so much over the last few decades.
After working in computer sales for the first 20+ years of my career, I decided to take my talents to conquer the world of real estate. It definitely hasn’t been easy but I’ve worked tirelessly to build relationships with every single one of my clients. Sales isn’t about just hitting a number – it really just all comes down to people and building genuine relationships. I love hearing my clients’ stories, whether they’re a young couple looking for their first starter home, or a family of 5 looking for their forever home. I love hearing their dreams and their priorities, to find them the perfect fit.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been in the Plano area for the last 30+ years, so of course I’m biased here! There are so many new developments in the area, so there’s so much to choose from.
First things first – coffee! My family’s favorite is Summer Moon Coffee in Frisco off of Main Street. We love them so much we make sure to fill up on the K-cups every time we stop by!
For food, a few of my favorite restaurants include the 99 Ranch food court in Frisco off of Preston – my husband loves the Taiwanese stinky tofu – a must try if you feel like branching out. We eat all the time over at Legacy West – Legacy Hall is always a fun time, and North Italia is our go-to for a nice dinner out. Carrollton’s fabulous for some good Korean barbecue, another of my family’s favorites. We’re also big hot pot lovers, and there are a bunch of great spots – including Yin Tang, Happy Lamb, and Tasty Pot!
Uptown is always our staple for some shopping! And of course for all of our out-of-towners we’d for sure stop by Allen Outlets for some bargain hunting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people, where to start! First, Karin Man – Karen is a person with whom I became friends with and became my mentor when I first got to the States. She introduced me to and taught me so many impactful things and about how to survive in a culturally different world.
Second, my long time best friend, Allyson Liu. Although we’ve lived in different cities, she’s always been there when I needed a listener, guidance, advice, and comfort.
And last but not least, my dear family. Without their support I wouldn’t be where or who I am today – I wouldn’t have any of the success I have now, nor would I have the motivation and support to continue achieving my goals.
