We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael Jacob and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachael, what do you attribute your success to?
One characteristic come to mind as the most significant factor behind all of my success.
It isn’t social intelligence. It isn’t physical athleticism. It isn’t good looks and it isn’t having the highest IQ.
It’s grit!
It’s my passion and my perseverance that provides me with grit for very long-term goals.
For my clients, I want them to know that they can come to me with any and all questions. It doesn’t matter where they are in their training with their dog. I will always be there, even long down the road. Not just for the week. Not just for the month, but for years. If I don’t have a direct answer for their questions or concerns, then I will learn and find an answer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Dog Trainer in Dallas Tx.
I am most proud of my self for taking a leap and starting my own business. It wasn’t easy but I got to where I currently am in my business by being honest, open minded, and willing to learn. I’ve learned to take risks and do more than most others will. I’ve learned to speak the truth, with intellect, kindness and necessity.
The basis of Get Real Dog Training is held on the necessity to get real and dig deeper into understanding our relationship to dogs. When we understand why dogs do things, then we can understand how to change or reinforce different behaviors.
I want people of all walks of life to enjoy the company of a dog regardless of the price point. Yes it can be expensive to hire a trainers with knowledge, experience, time and abilities but if any of my prospects have and open mind, enough time, and willingness to put in the effort, then I can work with them on a budget that benefits all of us.
I want my clients to know that I understand it can be frustrating to train a dog but it is much more rewarding when you get to reap the benefits of what you sow later on. If you put in the time, effort, energy and finances toward guiding your dog to improve, then your life and relationship with them will be much healthier!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas Arboretum, white rock Lake, or lower Greenville
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success is largely due to my previous mentor Ricky Ogelsby. He taught me how to take risks and go for broke because life will stack the odds against you..
Im originally from Mississippi and always had dogs growing up. My father taught me how to communicate to them gently through daily care and playing. I taught my Sheltie dog George Bailey to play basketball where dribbled around the driveway and he could nip the ball and try to steal it from me.
I moved to Dallas Tx when I was 18 and had a very difficult time. I was in bad relationships and abused substances for years to cope.
I turned things around when I found my cat named Carly Simon. My baby. I started seriously training my cat before I got a dog and Ricky helped me to learn more about becoming a dog trainer. He helped me grow my business while inspiring me to face my own fears. I was tired of living my life and the one thing that always brought me joy was my cat. I taught my cat how to come, sit, spin, fist bump, and use a human toilet.
Then I got my dog Faith. Ricky and I trained Faith together for a year or so before I started my own business. Faith has earned her AKC CGC and will be working towards her CGCU and CGCA soon.
Before Ricky passed away, he told me to jump in even when in feels scary. That is exactly when you should jump because otherwise you will stay stuck your whole life. So that is what I did. I jumped in full force. I did it scared. I did it tired. I did it broken. I did it in spite of every fear I had and I will keep striving to be a positive and well balanced dog trainer like Ricky showed me.
