We had the good fortune of connecting with Quientinn Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quientinn, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes you happy? And why?

Happiness can come from many things and can be found in some of the simplest thing or some of the most complex things. All of us as individuals spend majority of our time while living searching for even the smallest piece of the thing that can make us happy. I was recently asked what make me happy? And why? This was an easy question for me to answer and I believe I am blessed to be able to answer the question with ease. My answer to the question of what make me happy was my beautiful six-month baby girl. The joy I get every time I see her smile and even from watching her sleep is like no other. My daughter is not only the reason I am happy, but she is also what give me the motivation to keep pushing on the days that I am beyond tired or thinking about giving up. It is knowing that one day she’s going to want to pursue her dreams and if she sees me give up what example will that set for her. Being a parent isn’t all roses and sunshine there are days and nights that are challenging but I can whole heartly say that I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am lifestyle/portrait photographer based in the DFW area. What set me apart from others I believe is my work ethic and my ability to capture that special shot for my client. I believe anything you set out to do you should give it your all and do the job no matter what is to the best of your ability. As a photographer sometimes you are able to see certain things that’ll make your shot stand out from the rest. There are many proud moments I wish I could share. One of my proudest was when I got my first publication from one of my shoot, and to make it even better my shot made the cover of the magazine. I was so excited! Nothing in life worth having comes easy, there have been many obstacles I’ve faced and overcome. I started my journey into photography with knowing that I only wanted to take nice pictures. After buying my first camera which was a dslr I spent countless nights and days reading and researching everything possible about a camera. My mornings went from watching the news and sport center to watching YouTube channels on learning aperture, shutter speed, and things like composition. Afternoons were spent outside putting what I learned into action, taking pictures of anything or anyone I could. Nights I would begin to work on my post editing and perfecting my craft. Some of the many lessons I have learned is that you have to have thick skin in this business. Not everyone is going to like or support your art, but you can’t let that stop you. I also learned that networking goes a long away that you should try to connect with as many people in your area of interest as you can. Lastly I learned that you should find you a mentor and do not be afraid to reach out and ask for help or advice, To conclude I would like the world to know how much passionate I am about photography and that I really love what I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite spots in the city! I am from Louisiana and most of my family and friends still live there, but whenever they pay a visit here I am always excited to take them to some of my favorite spots in Dallas. Dallas is home to so many fun activities, great restaurants, and great bars to choose from. When it comes to good eating some of my favorite spots in no particular favorite order one The Keg Steakhouse there ribeyes or T-bones are perfect you can’t go wrong with The Keg if your looking for a good steakhouse. My next favorite spot when I’m in the mood for some good pasta is The Cheesecake Factory, my go to is the Louisiana chicken pasta it really is my favorite and to top it off you can’t leave without a slice or two of their infamous cheesecake. Lastly one restasturant I can’t forget about is Pappadeaux; my friends are always asking what is a good seafood place to go and with no doubt thats where we go. Moving on to great hang out spots I’m not sure where to even start from, If were looking for a great spot with great wings and to watch a good football or basketball game Pluckers is the spot I take them. When its time for a good time to and to have a few good drinks we either visit uptown Dallas or Deep Ellum.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout all my family and friends that take the time to share my work, to give me feedback on photos and to give me ideas on what I should or shouldn’t do. I would also like to shoutout to everyone that I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from and to those in the future I hope to work with.
