We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Priscilla, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
For me it is the reminder of “Do not be afraid to ask, the worse they will say is no,” My dad actually would tell me this growing up and he would remind me that if I did not ask, there was no room to grow. And if their response was “no,” then I would be in the same spot I was already at. Reminding myself of this, at all stages of my life, has helped me feel confident and comfortable with taking risks and seeking support from others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own Modern Wellness Counseling, an online therapy group practice that provides therapy to couples and adult individuals. We focus on helping couples overcome issues with trust, communication, intimacy and also offer premarital counseling. We also work with adults who struggle with self-esteem, anxiety, and trauma. Our main goal at our practice is that we focus on quality over quantity. Unlike other large practices, our clinicians have a smaller caseload in order to provide a higher level of care. Our practice also offers online courses to help people who may not feel comfortable with therapy but still want to learn the benefits of healthy relationship skills.

I have been able to work with many mentors and business focused programs that help women business owners. I also had a business coach a few years ago, to help implement structure within my business.
It has not been easy, as there was a huge learning curve when it came to understanding the business part of running a group practice. But I have enjoyed learning throughout the process.

Throughout this journey, I have learned to always put people first. Myself, the clinicians who work within my practice, my admin and the clients we serve. Before starting my practice, I worked at a foster care agency where I felt that the focus was on numbers and money. I did not feel valued nor seen, and when I left this agency, I made a promise to myself to create a work environment that would make everyone involved feel valued.
I believe this is why I have enjoyed the work I do so much.

I would like the world to know that as a first generation Latina business owner, I founded this private practice to help people in our community overcome struggles that are often stigmatized. I often hear from people that talking about their emotions to a stranger is something they never thought they would do, but have found it so rewarding.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot to visit on the weekend is The Pearl. You can find some great food at their farmer’s market and their restaurants are all delicious. Now that I have kids, I also love to visit some local splash pads (which The Pearl has one), the DoSeum, and the Zoo.

I also really enjoy walking along the Leon Creek Greenway, as it connects many different parts of our city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been my rock throughout my entrepreneur journey. He has and continues to support me in my business and has always had faith in me, even in moments when I would doubt myself.
